Sheffield Wednesday owner's blunt statement over Cardiff City's Aden Flint following Tony Pulis' sacking

Aden Flint has been back at Cardiff City undertaking his rehabilitation following a nasty hamstring injury while playing for Sheffield Wednesday

Saturday 2nd January 2020

The Cardiff City defender signed a season-long loan deal with the Owls on deadline day back in October, but after impressing early on he sustained a nasty hamstring injury in his fourth outing.

It seemed fairly innocuous at first, but the problem was worse than first feared and the 31-year-old underwent surgery.

Fellow Wednesday loan man Jack Marriot befell the same injury strife and had to return to Derby County, leaving their situations somewhat up in the air.

But while there appears to be scope for Marriott's return to Hillsborough, the verdict on where Flint will play his football at the back end of the season now seems pretty clear.

When the Sheffield Star asked Chansiri what would happen to Flint and Marriot this season, he replied: “I don’t know yet… I think Flint needs to go, but the other I’m not sure yet.”

The decision on Flint will almost certainly have a knock-on effect for Leicester City loanee Filip Benkovic.

Benkovic has had to wait an age for his chance in a Bluebirds shirt, but made his bow against Wycombe Wanderers in midweek owing to an ankle ligament injury to captain Sean Morrison after just 20 minutes.

No doubt Leicester will have wanted the Croat to have had more involvement this term and it is not unthinkable that the Foxes will opt to recall him this month.

There is certainly a decision to be made and this is what Harris said on it all before Tony Pulis was axed by the Owls.

"Aden is not going to be fit, realistically, until into February," the Bluebirds manager said last month.

"Again, his professionalism to recover from injury is as good as I've seen, his drive to get fit.

"It's one where, he will stay with us for a period and it's whether he can get back on the grass quickly enough to be involved with us from January onwards, or whether Sheffield Wednesday think about extending the loan past January because he will be useful for them past January.

I get the impression this Sheff Wed owner thinks he is beyond that.

It is up to City to decide whether Flint stays with us or goes back to SW, season long loan is just that, even if city had a January recall clause, it is entirely up to city not to use it if they so require. SW sorry but you have no say in it :laughing6:

So why should we keep Flint who was loaned for the season and injured playing for them? By the time he is match fit it will be end of Match. No. They can get stuffed and pay his wages.

For me, if the contract was done right Flint should be Sheff Wed responsibility till May end off.
