SHEFF WEDS OWNER SLAMS TONY PULIS

Fri Jan 01, 2021 2:22 pm

Why would the owner hire him and then ask him to change his management style? Pulis should never of gone there!

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri lays into Tony Pulis after sacking him just 45 days into the job, calling him 'the worst one in my club' and claiming he 'tried to cause a lot of trouble' and threatened to 'call in sick'

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri slammed sacked boss Tony Pulis

The Owls chairman said the Welshman is the worst manager he's ever hired

Chansiri claimed Pulis tried to cause trouble by threatening to call in sick

Pulis lasted just 10 games at Hillsborough before he was sacked this week

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri slammed Tony Pulis as 'the worst one in my club' after sacking the manager 45 days after hiring him.

In a press conference that lasted over two hours, Chansiri called the 62-year-old 'unprofessional' and claimed he had 'tried to cause a lot of trouble' during his 10 games in charge of the Owls.

The owner, who wanted Pulis to play a more attacking style of football, said he had been persuaded against sacking the manager following five defeats from his first eight games in charge.

Chansiri claimed that Pulis had said he could work with the players in the way he wanted, only for him to decide the squad was not fit for purpose and suggested another manager would be a better fit.

Pulis spoke with Chansiri after Wednesday's victory over Coventry in December with the owner claiming the coach tried to force his hand by threatening to ring in sick.

'He is the worst one in my club and tried to cause a lot of trouble,' said Chansiri.

'He was saying if I did not make a decision on his future, he would call in sick.

'He could damage my club. I made the decision not to help him any more.

'I told my people we need to be more attacking. He's going to play 4-5-1 and I don't see we're going to have a chance to win. Maybe we can get some draws but we cannot do that so I made the decision to go to (Neil) Thompson (as caretaker manager).'

Pulis was appointed after Garry Monk was sacked in November following 14 months in charge. The Owls were second from bottom when Pulis took over after their 12-point deduction was reduced to six.

Chansiri said he had opted against appointing the Welshman a year earlier but decided he had the experience required to keep the team in the Championship.

He said: 'I was not convinced about his style of play so it was not the right choice.

'This time I thought he had experience and we needed someone strong and we needed to stay up and then try to get into the play-offs if we could, but the priority was to stay up so I had an interview with him and he convinced me he could do that with the squad we had.

'I told him I don’t like the old English style but he told me he wouldn’t play like that, his tactics would depend on the opponents.

'That’s why I brought him here and I told him I am always straight-forward and my managers must always be straight-forward.'

Chansiri said managers had been in contact with him about the vacancy and he also hit back at criticism from fans, saying: 'I want to ask, the minority fan that is always negative, I want to know what they are doing for this club, beside moaning or being negative.

'The fans can blame me. I have no issue. In business, there is always risk. You can do bad. You can do good. It is normal in business.

'I have lost a lot of money, not the fans. The minority try to say how bad I am. I ask the minority what they are doing for the club. If they don't like me, they don't need to get involved.

'I feel sorry for me that I have lost a lot of money. I am not saying I am a good or bad owner. I believe that I am loyal to the fans to say to the truth. Sometimes the fans don't like what I have to say. I have no issue with people criticising. I always like to listen. If you don't like me, that's fine. Just don't damage the club.'

Pulis had been outspoken over the club's difficulty to pay their player wages in full during the month of November. Chansiri admitted the club had been affected financially by the Covid-19 pandemic but insisted player wages and ticket refunds would be paid eventually.

'With the Covid situation, we don't have any revenue. We didn't defer the players' wages like other clubs. We tried our best to do it.

'The payments will be paid, just a little bit late. We have expenses every day, every month. Everyone has a problem, we have a problem with cash flow but at the end the players will get paid.'

On fans' season ticket refunds, he added: 'I can guarantee they will get their refund at the end. We have many issues. We've just changed the system, it's a little bit slow and taking a bit longer.

'We didn't expect 50 to 60 per cent to want refunds, the fans must be a little bit patient.'

The Owls beat Middlesborough 2-1 on Tuesday with caretaker Neil Thompson in charge. The club are currently 22nd in the Championship and three points from safety.

Yes well Sheff Wed don't have £36m in parachute payments. Lets see how Tan is when he is on the same level playing field as his Sheff Wed oppo.

Hes been there before and still consistently backed the club and its managers both on and off the pitch . In fact he has kept his word on pretty much everything he has promised financially so far

Funny they are looking for their 3rd manager this season.

Pulis given 35 days and one win from getting off the bottom.

Pulis asked for players in January, Sky Sports just said.

Been on the SW fans forum and it’s overwhelming against the owner.....they want him gone now.
Not everyone supported Pullis but the majority were taking his side

Depends on the contract. There might have been an option to send him back in jan if they wanted to.
