NEIL HARRIS: " JOSH MURPHY / MONEY / NEW PLAYERS "

'It's down to the player' - Neil Harris sends pointed message to Cardiff City outcast Josh Murphy ahead of January transfer window

Harris: "I pick players who deserve to play and fit into a team in a way I want them to play."

"There is no money available, if I was to sell a player,I am able to use some of that money."

"I pick players who deserve to play and fit into a team in a way I want them to play."

Friday 1st January 2020

The winger has played a bit-part this season but the manager believes it is down to Murphy to convince him he's worth a place in the team

Neil Harris has told Josh Murphy he must do more to force his way into the Cardiff City lineup.

Cardiff City manager Neil Harris has told Josh Murphy in no uncertain terms what he needs to do to force his way into the Bluebirds line-up.

NEIL HARRIS:

When asked what Harris' vision was for the player, the manager said: "Longer term, I hope that Josh can knuckle down and put in some performances over a longer period of time.

"Doing it for five minutes and not for 85 is not what we need.

"It’s down to the player to make sure the manager picks him. You can always say that the manager has to give someone an opportunity, but I go back to what I said earlier, Josh is one of the players who fits into it.

"I pick players who deserve to play and fit into a team in a way I want them to play."

Harris was referring to a comment he had made earlier in his press conference, when he said some players, such as Mark Harris, had deserved his shot owing to the work he had put in behind the scenes.

However, it appears Murphy has to do a lot more on the training ground if he is to convince the manager he is deserving of his place in the starting line-up.

"Mark deserved that opportunity to go into the team, some players have maybe been a bit unlucky not to get more game time," Harris said. "Some players don’t deserve it.

"I’m in a privileged position of seeing what you guys, the fans, don’t see, what goes on behind closed doors on the training ground.

"I will always pick a team who can win a game, but also players who deserve to be out on the pitch for our club."

It seems, having such a luxury player on the bench, it is crunch time now for Murphy and Cardiff City.

His situation might well be one to watch as the January window rumbles on, particularly because the Bluebirds do not plan on splashing the cash next month.

When asked to clarify just what sort of budget constraints he is working with in January, though, Harris did reveal he would be able to reinvest if he was able to recoup a fee from selling a player.

"There is no money available, if I was to sell a player,I am able to use some of that money."

"I think there is a reality that if players were to move on we could replace them, I think it’s fair to say," the manager explained.

"That will change week by week, it’s a question I have got to discuss with the board.

"All I was doing is trying not to get expectations too high with fans and media networks.

"We are not going to be one of those clubs who go out and spend millions, if there are clubs who are lucky enough to do it then good luck to them.

"It will be a case of players going out and possibly replacing them.

"But what I will say is that the board have been incredibly supportive of me and will always be supportive of their managers if they can."

Harris is on a loser here. It appears he doesnt really want to be here and there is no incentive for Murphy to bust a gut for the side or do more than the minimum required in training. Picks up £20K a week (or something like that) whether he plays or not.

Murphy has had both enough time and opportunities to make an impression. We should get rid.

Clear to everyone he doesn’t want to be at the club,Murphy has never looked like a player, worth the 11 million we paid for him,not really suited to the style of football Cardiff play,a bit like Bobby Reid, best for both parties if he finds a new club, another player we ll lose millions on I’m afraid

Can’t think many would want to play for Harris, and it shows. Comes across as a dipstick. How he got through the interview would normally be anybody’s guess, but not here. Good luck to Murphy in finding a better club.

I think Murphy has shown flashes of his true ability but not in enough games

Should we get rid now?

That's a toughie, as we don't know what the managerial situation is going to be

If (not my preference) Neil Harris is here for the duration, then we need to let Murphy go; he is clearly not the style of player for Harris, just as we wasn't for Neil Warnock

A new manager, say Bellamy, may get a better tune out of him; and I refer to the difference in brother Jacob since his move to Newcastle

Josh Murphy gets a lot of bad press and a lot of it is deserved but even on Tuesday I thought he showed a lot more energy than Ojo who pretty much refused every opportunity to take on their fullback and it's been like that pretty much for most of the season. Ojo much prefers to cut inside and when he gets there he shows he is capable of causing problems but I would bet money Harris picks Ojo out wide tomorrow.

For me our problems have as much to do with Harris & Livermore than any individual player and how many are waiting to see our management team get a tune out of Harry Wilson. For me in Wilson and Ojo we have a couple of players who want to play inside in the number 10 position but NH has them out wide and wasting them. We have players to do that job, proven players at this level, Hoilett and Murphy but NH seems to prefer to have a dig at one of them in public.

Classic attempt to divert attention away from his failings and may go a long way to explain why this group is underperforming. A life lesson here for you Neil your the boss and the buck stops with you.

I think we should keep him I think his contract runs to 2022 and we ALL know NH is on his last legs maybe just maybe our new manager when he arrives will get a tune out of Josh and Harry Wilson because it's clear Harris can't.

Josh is a forward by nature and attributes, he is not a full back......

Harris is even more defensive than Warnock who realised in fact his whole ethos was built on speed and counter attack. Harris needs to do what DJ did with Whitts, stop bloody concentrating on the things he can't do well and accentuate the things he is very good at.

Championship football is about compromise and luck. players with close to a full set of Skill, speed, stamina, strength and character (professionalism) end up in the premier league. All the others you are trying to knit together a team to balance out those attributes.

Harris is a lower leagues manager who wants obedient tryers. Harris over Josh says its all.

We should have built systems around Murphy and Wilson as inside forwards with Moore. Wilson works very hard, but game on game he is being dragged down to our level. You don't need really clever passing with those three just get the ball to them, but Harris wants the wide forwards to be full backs, and Josh isn't that.

He will do very well when he leaves, he is a talented player.

Murphy is a f*cking leech he needs to f**k off to league 1

He would win more support if he actually put some effort in. He’s the only player that loses the ball but has a lay down on the turf before having a think about chasing back.
Say what you like about junior but he doesn’t stop running. What he lacks in pace he makes up for with industry and some wonder goals. Ojo and Wilson don’t stop running either.

I hope it's Harris that goes first and we get a manager who gets a tune out of Murphy and Wilson.

Harris will not get any money!

Some players are going out and with that scenario the squad needs at least 6 new signings.

In the current pandemic and other issues that’s going to be extremely difficult.

Just hope we don’t get any further long term injuries or several players test positive.

As Boris would say “ it’s going to get worse before it gets better” :ayatollah:

Great post again, Gary; perhaps Neil Harris thinks he's the new Jose Mourinho... :laughing6:

Murphy to stay for me; and he must be allowed to play his part before we are chasing a game!

Should be building teams around players like Murphy, Wilson, Tomlin etc.. they’re the can openers who can get the fans buzzing again..

I doubt very much if messi could do much in our team, with a couple of minute cameos in the 90th minute every 3 - 4 games .
I agree Neil Harris is finding a scapegoat , so who's easiest to blame , but the player most fans think is lazy !

yes mate . Murphy wasnt great in the Coventry game but was nowhere near our worse player either , just the easy option when it came to hooking someone...this fella doesnt do tough decisions..

Murphy, Tomlin and Wilson are too skillful and attack minded for Harris to cope with.

All these on the pitch or a combination of the 3 would carve teams apart.

Problem sits with the stunted defensive cautious manager.
