I am still backing Harris

Thu Dec 31, 2020 5:42 pm

All this calling for his head does not run with me.
He did mess up in not getting cover at right back, and too loyal to likes of Bennett.
Injuries to Tomlin, Tutu and Moore has hit the squad hard, and the loss of Mendez, who could of foreseen him being such a knob.
The players need to step up, Harris needs to identify the posters He wants and get us back on track.
A lot of fans have been against him from day 1.

Odd place to look, but I’m up for it if I get the call..

I was neutral on is appointment, thought he did a great job last season and said I would give it 10 games this season...but he has made too many poor decisions to continue supporting him with his selections and tactics but most of all, it’s the nonsense he now speaks after most games.
One minute he is happy with the squad , then it lacks depth etc etc.
I want Cardiff to be successful and if Harris isn’t doing it then it’s time for a change.
I just think the players have lost confidence in him and so have stopped playing for him .

This (above) with the exception I didn't think he was right at the start, then warmed to him getting us to the Play-offs before watching it go downhill quite steeply again this season

Easy to say about the injuries but we are no different to most other clubs in that sphere and should/could have cultivated a squad that was up to the task...

Or maybe we did and the manager isn't (a) selecting horses for courses, and/or (b) getting the best out of this he has?

he has been talking nonsense since he arrived ... its just its now catching up with him , contradicting previous nonsense with new nonsense.....on a positive note at least he has stopped talking about himself in the third person...

Im still backing Harris as well for the time being. I dont think any of us could do any better. We have a below average midfield. This area has been neglected over the years by previous managers. We have no premiership quality midfielders.

It’s not about what we could do as we are not professional managers....it’s about what Pearson or Howe or Hughes etc could do

admittedly he hasnt had endless scope but...he has brought 6 in and midfield did not seem a priority ?

Having finished fifth last season and adding Moore Wilson Ojo Tuttu and Benkovic to the mix I thought as a very minimum we should at least make the playoffs. At the halfway point of the season we have no chance of the playoffs and that is a pretty stark failure. Always been one of Harris's defenders but I can't do it anymore. Time for a change for me even though there is no one obviously better who would come to us.

The third person thing is monumental progress at least..maybe that was the great leap he, Neil Harris, spoke of..

Gotta be last chance saloon at Rotherham, we must not lose!

Re: I am still backing Harris

For me if we are to replace Harris then Vincent Tan will need t back the new manager with funds and I just cannot see that happening. Personally I think we are stuck with Harris regardless what happens in the near future. As for replacing him it will have to be at a time when it is right for Tan. That will most likely be either when Harris contract is up or we are in such a dyer situation Tan has no choice to do it. What Tans dyer situation is compared to most of us fans well I dread to think about.

I have defended Harris a fair bit this season. After what he achieved last season he deserved a fair crack this season. But I have lost all faith in him now. Without the magic of tomlim, as his get out of jail card, he looks completely clueless and does not have the ability to change a game or change tactics. Swansea completely overrun us in midfield and he did nothing for the entire game. Couldn't even bring himself to bring fresh legs on. 2-0 down to bottom of the league last week and he doesn't change anything until the 75th min. The team looks knackered because he's burnt out the starting 11 as he uses the squad poorly.

We could win 5-0 tomorrow but it won't change anything as Harris must be the most predictable manager in the league and the better managers have us sussed out. We do need change and I'd prefer to see him go now. But we can't afford to get the next manager wrong as we could be bang in trouble next season - further cuts, no parachute payments etc. Harris won't get us relegated so id rather the club ride this season out and take their time and bring in the right manager for next season. Also, I dont think we can afford to pay Harris off and bring in someone else!

I don't like to see managers removed without them having a fair crack.
However, a club the size of Cardiff who in recent years had two spells in the Premiership and only last season, got into the play-offs; I would expect top half of the table throughout the season at the very least.
I'm afraid our current position as well as losing to the bottom team, last week, with very little fight is simply unacceptable, despite the unfortunate injuries in the squad.

the right manager.... is easier said than done....ask 10 people..get 10 different replies... all clubs get this wrong
its always a gamble and the person that might turn out best could well be available now but not so in 5 months time... truth is we will only know with hindsight...what we do know is the right person is not NH { well the majority think he isnt } so id like us to take the gamble now...

Yes its a gamble but its a gamble id prefer to see the club do a bit of research first before taking, rather than appointing the first available manager. Next season is going to be tough for whoever comes in. A few more senoir players will be leaving and who knows what investment we'll see. Get this wrong and we could quite easily be in derbys or forests position next season. Getting rid of Harris would mean paying up his contract as well. When money is tight id imagine that will influence who we bring in.

I'm not against getting rid of Harris now though. I just don't want the club rushing into a decision. Id be quite happy to see Cook come in now to be honest and start building for next season. Think he's a safer/realistic option. Anyone expecting howe is just setting themselves up for dissapointment. He'd demand a lot of backing and can't see that happening. Bellamy would be a massive gamble (if there isn't any bad blood there) but id be happy to take that gamble. We need someone with a bit of passion and no doubt he's made contacts to bring players in.

I dont have a lot of faith in the board to be honest so I'm not getting my hopes up, whoever it is.

Yes, so id rather our board of 'non footballing' men not rush into a decision.

Re: I am still backing Harris

It’s time for a change. Whilst it would be harsh on Harris not to give him the game he thought he had, his time was up anyway. We’re now going to lose two weeks of prep time for the new manager if we don’t move on now.

I hope at least that the board are working through a short list of candidates and sensing their initial interest. It would be diligent of them to do so given the circumstances.
