NEIL HARRIS: “WE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WE WERE GOING TO GET

Wed Dec 30, 2020 7:40 am

CARDIFF CITY FC:

NEIL HARRIS:

“WE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WE WERE GOING TO GET AGAINST WYCOMBE.”

“We lost the game in both penalty areas.” Neil began. “We conceded two headed goals within eight yards of our goal, and they have cost us. Other than that, Alex Smithies didn’t have a save to make until the 90th minute.

“We had four clear-cut chances in their penalty area where I expected us to score, and we didn’t. That’s why we’ve lost the game.”

Goals from Ryan Tafazolli and David Wheeler gave the hosts the points, and the boss provided an honest reaction to events at Adams Park.

“To concede goals like we did tonight is not acceptable. We’ve got a good group of players, who are really nice lads. I need them to step up and be better at times. When you get your chance, you have to take it.

“We knew exactly what we were going to get against Wycombe. How they fought and battled, how they played forward and won a lot of second balls.

“Losing games tonight in the manner we did is disappointing. It’s not good enough for me, and we take collective responsibility for it.”

Sean Morrison was withdrawn from the action midway through the first half, and Neil gave a comment on the skipper’s enforced substitution.

“Losing your captain against a physical team like we played tonight is a big blow. He’s a leader, he’s the captain, and we’re lacking a little bit of leadership in the group. Mozza gives us that, with his experience of being at the club for a period of time and with his presence on the pitch.”

He concluded: “He’s in a protective boot, and we will see him tomorrow when it settles down. He’s just another one to add to the injury list of key players. We lack a little bit of quality when you take key players out of the group. Players have to be better, and step up in their absence.”

Unbelievable! Harris is living in cloud cuckoo land.

We lost the game, because they scored more goals than us,it ain’t rocket science, there can be no excuses,Wycombe were bottom of the league, and the team Harris put out, were simply not up for the challenge and lost the game, the list of excuses now are pathetic,we can’t compete against the sides who play decent football, and we can’t compete against the more physical sides,as we all know Harris is a yes man,he will sit there and just take orders, and continue to pick his wages up under the illusion he’s doing a decent job,the big questions is with tan and the board,do they want this club to be successful, and put footballing people in place to try and salvage a very disappointing season so far?,or are they riding it out trying to save as much money as possible, hoping to avoid relegation until COVID disappears and the world gets back to normal???

Whatever Harris says at the moment he is going to get scorned.

Listening to most on here its clear we have weaknesses in the squad. No one is interested in buying our players so we are stuck with what we have. So we then need to bring more players in if we are to challenge or at least avoid relegation. That's not going to happen.

I'm preparing for a few seasons mid table in the Championship. I just feel we have an owner who now has found his level.

Couldnt agree more! We also have some players who have found that same level!!
Fair enough Harris gets most of the flack, but some of our players should shoulder the blame too? Im sure he doesnt tell them to play so poorly? Our pass success rate is under 70% which to me is poor to say the very least, these are supposed to be professionals in their chosen field,if it were any other line of work, you could sack them, for not reaching the standards required!! If i has a carpet fitter in,and he cut the carpet short, but still wanted paying,he'd be told where to go,and not in a polite way either!!

Was thinking this today.. not Harris fault some players are not skilled at this level. We’re where we are because we’ve too many duffers..

The majority of this squad is very experienced at this level. Lack of technical ability can be made up for by effort, which is the minimum that should be expected of them. But, whilst I agree it seems some players arnt putting the effort in, harris picks the team and tactics used. If players arnt performing they should be dropped. If tactics arnt working they should be changed. Harris cant seem to do either.

I said on another thread that in the calendar year 2020, we have beaten all three sides that were promoted, and had some great away wins at Bristol City, Preston twice, Watford and Stoke. So we know the team is capable of competing in this league. But for some reason, we turn out some horrendous performances, like against QPR, Coventry, Swansea and of course our last 3 games. This has got to be down to the manager, team selection, tactics and motivation etc. So he really needs to go if he can't get the team performing every week.

Tomlin can walk around, but in 3 seconds around the box can create a goal. Messi does the same at the higher level. Skill is innate and comes naturally.
Most of our players are slow, and Harris is trying to paint a Van Gogh with three bristles on his brush..

NEIL HARRIS:

Harris was asked:

“Are you asking me if I’m going to keep my job in January?

“That’s something I can’t control. I can control team selection, tactics, trying to prepare the players correctly for games, trying to advise the transfer committee on transfers.

"I can’t change what’s been done in the past – I can only focus on what’s going to happen in this window.

“I love my job – it’s a privileged position at a great club and I’ll do it to the best of my ability every day until I’m told otherwise.”

After the defeat by Norwich City before Christmas, Harris said he was targeting points against Brentford, Wycombe and Rotherham.

City have, of course, lost two of the three so far, with the Rotherham clash looming on January 2.
