" NEIL HARRIS SAYS: I CAN'T CONTROL WHETHER I STAY "

The Bluebirds manager has had pressure heaped on him once again following another poor string of results

By Glen Williams

Neil Harris has responded to suggestions his job is under pressure once again after Cardiff City's defeat by Wycombe Wanderers left them seven points adrift of the play-off spots.

Chairman Mehmet Dalman claimed upon the closure of the transfer window back in October that he would be disappointed if the Bluebirds were not in the top six by January.

And now, with the Wycombe result meaning Cardiff have lost four of their last five matches, pressure has piled on the shoulders of the manager once again.

Following a brief bright spell at the beginning of the month, Cardiff have really struggled either side of Christmas, leaving themselves with an uphill task to force themselves into the play-off reckoning.

As always, the January transfer window could hold the key as City look to wheel and deal and adjust their squad. But when asked if Harris will be given the month to turn City's fortunes around,

NEIL HARRIS:

he replied: “Are you asking me if I’m going to keep my job in January?

“That’s something I can’t control. I can control team selection, tactics, trying to prepare the players correctly for games, trying to advise the transfer committee on transfers.

"I can’t change what’s been done in the past – I can only focus on what’s going to happen in this window.

“I love my job – it’s a privileged position at a great club and I’ll do it to the best of my ability every day until I’m told otherwise.”

After the defeat by Norwich City before Christmas, Harris said he was targeting points against Brentford, Wycombe and Rotherham.

City have, of course, lost two of the three so far, with the Rotherham clash looming on January 2.

Quote (Neil Harris): "I can control team selection, tactics, trying to prepare the players correctly for games, trying to advise the transfer committee on transfers..."

No, Neil. It has become clear to most, if not quite all, that you cannot on the first three; and the fourth is largely out of your hands in any meaningful way because of the current budgetary requirements

I believe 'some' of the blame lies above you (in the Board Room) and below you (with certain players) but as you state above, it is the bits you should control (on the pitch in competitive games) that you are seemingly currently not

How long do you think we the supporters) or the seemingly up to this point intransigent Board should allow...? :?

Wycombe was probably the lowest point of the season to date (it was the manner of the Swansea defeat rather than the result that hurt most) and it is made worse because it follows on from too many other 'disappointing' games

Some tough decisions to be made in the next few days and they will have a major impact on the remainder of this season and maybe well beyond :(

100% aggree. The board should act today or Harris should do the decent thing show the fans some ambition and get a no nonsense manager in to sought some of the players out as some do not deserve to wear the shirt, especially after that NO SHOW LAST NIGHT

Sack him, get bellers in or put bamba in charge till the end of the season. I know neither have experience but at least the players won’t get away with performances like that week in week out :)
