So where to now???

Tue Dec 29, 2020 9:45 pm

To hear Sky saying that Cardiff get a consolation goal against Wycombe is a damning indictment of our club at the moment.

So what next, a few choices...

1. Yes man, given no money
2. Yes man given funds
3. Strong managerial candidate no money
4. Strong managerial candidate given money
.
.
.
5. Yes man, no money and told to trim squad further?

Hopefully 4 but more than likely 1 or 5.

Spot on and that’s what we need ...a manager to deliver in the pitch otherwise we are headed back into the mess Warnock got us out of when he first came

I'd go for 4 but with a few caveats...

Get a young, manager, dynamic, passionate and preferably who knows and loves the club (Bellamy is the obvious choice - perhaps Hudson or even Bamba)

Set expectations that the club needs a massive overhaul and the aim for the next three years is to maintain Championship status while we establish a) a much clearer path from youth to the first team and b) a 'Cardiff Style' that is adopted through all age groups.

A 'Cardiff style' doesn't necessarily have to be the pretty passing game of Swansea or Fulham etc. Some of the best football we've played in recent years was under Warnock when we went up.

Direct but not long ball. Quick transition from defence to attack. High pressing without the ball. Like how we played against Wolves when we beat them at Molyneux the season we went up for example. It is in our DNA as a club to be aggressive and hardworking we shouldn't lose sight of that, but it doesn't mean route one over and over again.

At the minute the most important part of our identity, the battling has gone. Consistently we are losing out on the second ball and being outfought. There is a lack of passion on the pitch and once again we lost to a side with less talent but a lot more heart.

We need someone to bring back the passion and the pride in the shirt.

For me, its Bellers all the way (if he would come that is) and in a fantasy football world with Hudson as a number two and then preferably bring in an older head as Director of Football, to get a real football man on the board. I'd have loved to have seen us offer Warnock that role, but I think he wouldn't have taken it, too hooked on the matchday adrenaline for a board role.

Maybe Pulis or Holloway could work as a DoF? Just someone who's been there and done it and who can act as a mentor to a young manager, not so much on how to set the team up, but just to pass on advice on how to deal with the pressure, engage with the fans, and liaise with the board, deal with underperforming players etc.

Nigel Pearson for me. If not then Bellamy on an 18 month contract. Failing both of this then the cheap option paul cook.

You can only be a "NO MAN" if you get the results to shove down the chairman's throat. If a manager gets in the top 2 in the championship the dynamic changes and that means they usually call the shots on who they want.

If it works out they continue to get the backing. But when it goes t1ts up they go back to being a Yes Man again.
