ANOTHER VIEW: WYCOMBE V BLUEBIRDS

Tue Dec 29, 2020 9:43 pm

Tonight for me (and the manager) was one of those should/must do wins; but yet again the manager failed to make the bold decisions and the Bluebirds came away from battling but ultimately bottom-of-the-table for a reason Wycombe Wanderers with a self-inflicted loss

Not that the Bluebirds didn't have their opportunities (Wilson had at least two great chances) but not for the first time the Bluebirds appeared to have no 'heart' and no 'desire' to work hard off the ball and close opposition players down in the way of the more successful clubs this season

It's easy to blame Benkovic for Wycombe opening goal but that would be to excuse others who were culpable leading up to that goal. In fairness to Benkovic, he was only on a few minutes (replacing the injured Morrison) after a long lay-off from real competitive football; and, to be fair, I thought he had a decent game beyond that one incident

A drab first-half saw Wycombe in the ascendency before the Bluebirds got into the game more without really seizing any opportunities at the top of the field and Smithies was saved from more embarrassment when he was beaten only for the ball to hit the post and a handball then being given as he waved his arms to save the blushes

HALF-TIME: WYCOMBE WANDERERS 1 - 0 CARDIFF CITY

The second half was a little more back and forth but it was clear the the Bluebirds were unable to make any real inroads into the Wycombe 'game plan' that was working so well

The Bluebirds huffed and puffed but seemingly without attempting to 'blow the house down' with any gusto; and far to often the Wycombe defence were able to repel any would be boarders

Then came the sucker punch and Wycombe doubled their lead through an ineffectual defence opening up for them to put the ball in the back of the Bluebird net

Wycombe were well on top and to be honest, the Bluebirds didn't look remotely like pulling the burning ambition from the (proverbial) fire

The mildly amusing action for me was the 'sending off' of Neil Harris; and all I could think of was a taxi waiting outside courtesy of one Vincent Tan...please! :laughing6:

A late goal by Junior Hoilett was too little too late and the Bluebirds went down to yet another disappointing defeat to bottom of the League Wycombe Wanderers

FINAL SCORE: WYCOMBER 2 - 1 CARDIFF CITY

When all is said and done, this simply has to be put down as a very disappointing loss and questions are surely being asked in the corridors of power? I 100% know they are being asked elsewhere; and that includes amongst supporters, stakeholders Forums and local media outlets

One of the questions being asked is "Are the Bluebirds now playing in spite of rather than because of Neil Harris; and the consensus amongst those I have spoken to is the former. Most believe Harris has lost the trust of the Dressing room and much of the Bluebird support

How do Vincent Tan, Mehemt Dalman and Ken Choo feel? Who actually knows anymore; but if Neil Harris is still here come New Years Day, then I think he is here for the season and we will just have to get used to things staying as they are

Thankfully, in some ways for us but mainly for the manager, we are currently not allowed into the stadium to let him/them know how a lot of us feel

Painfully disappointed tonight and mainly because of a genuine lack of fight or endeavour that would have lightened to sabre mood of the last few games

As an aside, former Bluebird favourite and Wycombe Wanderes manager, Gareth Ainsworth, 'did a job' on us tonight; but for me, he is not the potential 'Messiah' one or two appear to think he might be. Didn't see too much to impress me other than a hard working side who punished a team (loose term) of now seemingly rudderless players

Oh Chris “you are awful but I do like you”

Another poor defeat, performance and reality check. The squad inherited by Harris was awful, he’s addressed width with ojo and Wilson, was unlucky with Moore, but overall it isn’t good enough. Teams boss us, teams run through our midfield as if it doesn’t exist (because it doesn’t) and the wasted millions spent by NW are biting us hard. Worked wonders to get us up but we should have gotten rid then. He started our decline and Harris seeing it through.

Sums up my thoughts Sven.

I too would not want Ainsworth. I want Paul Cook.

Harris needs to go now.
