‘ Gareth Ainsworth ‘

Tue Dec 29, 2020 8:37 am

I loved Gareth Ainsworth when he was at Cardiff, attitude, passion, battler and a hell of a character :thumbright:
He’s done amazing with tiny Wycombe Wanderers and will be up for it tonight.

For me this is a must win game for Neil Harris.

Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth and Cardiff City manager Neil Harris

He certainly wins best hair in the league.

Very good young manager .
He’s doing a good job and will be interesting to see how he does when he moves to a bigger club with bigger expectations and better players.

Going to be interesting tonight as bottom of the Championship, no quality players , but a young energetic manager v a team full of quality and a manager hmmmm?

If you gave me the choice either Harris or Ainsworth, I would chose Ainsworth :bluebird:

Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth was in the #CardiffCity squad during our last league visit to Adams Park in April 2003.

On that day, the #Bluebirds won 4-0, with Peter Thorne (2), Alan Mahon & Andy Legg on the scoresheet.

Likewise Annis - if the board do sack Harris, he would be my first choice for us. Yes, it would be an unknown quantity at a bigger club, but we aren't going down this season, so give him a couple of transfer windows and see where we go. I don't feel we are going anywhere other than mid table mediocrity under Harris. Personally, I'd quite like to see this squad play under a more attack minded manager.

Is his managerial record that good. True he did get Wycombe promoted last season but he has been there eight years and they were promoted via the playoffs, would we keep a manager for eight seasons if he did not get us promoted. In one of the seasons he was there they finished three points above the last team relegated. He is possibly an example of the fact that if you hang on to a manger indefinitely he will either eventually either get you promoted or relegated. They will be relegated this season probably finishing bottom. So overall record one slightly unlikely promotion one relegation the season after.

Personally I think he is a very competent manager who unlike most was given time to do his job. Is his record actually any better than Harris. He got Millwall to two playoff finals one resulting in promotion and they finished eighth the following season rather than bottom. Granted Millwall is a bigger club than Wycombe but his record is better with them. In the last four seasons Harris has got his side in the top six three times.

I think some are seduced by the rock star looks. Overall I would say Harris's record is just as good if not better than Ainsworth's. And I say that as someone who is not paticularly a fan of Harris.

Wow this must be the first time ever there has been a A clamour to replace a reasonably succesful manager whose team is in mid table with the manager whose team is bottom of the same league having won only two matches all season and who are looking like relegation certainties.

Robin Friday / Ainsworth

Tue Dec 29, 2020 2:03 pm

He always reminded me in both his attitude and the way he played of a Robin Friday type character. Bit of a charmer , wheeler dealer and has the affect that players want to play for him.

Certainly one to watch - maybe at the city one day?

Definitely wins the 1970's hair of the year award

A well balanced post and like you I’m not a fan of Harris but I don’t understand why anyone would want this guy as our manager.

I liked his attitude when he played for us but didn’t he only play about a dozen games from memory?
Would anyone want him if he hadn’t had a spell with us 15 or 20 years ago?

9 games in our promotion season under LL.... sent off at Bristol in the lge game and then took no part in either of our final 2 lge games or the play offs... we lost more { 5 } games than we won when he was in the team ..

For me its not his hair or that he played for us. He is getting the best out of a limited squad with next to no money and playing decent football doing it. We seem to be going backwards this season and Harris doesn't appear to have the answers. The board don't seem to fancy an overseas manager, so other than the newly available Pulis - who else would people suggest?

Hello Paul yet again

I would not even think of Ainsworth, but Harris has a talented first team.

Ainsworth, two promotions. tiny club, zero budget.

Sack Harris, but Committee wont get any better than Harris, so may as well stick with Harris :bluebird: :bluebird:

Evening annis, yeah I agree, but we need an experienced head imho, but not Ainsworth or pulis for me! But budget will e a big factor in getting a manager with that sort of c.v.
I have stayed neutral so far,in slagging off Harris, and tonight could be the catalyst for his tenure? Im glad I'm not able to watch tonight,as in work.but listening to the radio is hard work!!
