Former Celtic loan Filip Benkovic is desperately waiting for the New Year to arrive as he yearns to find new loan club, following unsuccessful spell away from his parent club this season.
Benkovic, aged 23, has been on loan at Championship side Cardiff City this season, but some how has not featured once and has their for struggled for game time in England’s second tier – Benkovic s being given the green light to move on, by his parent club Leicester.
Having joined the Welsh side on loan from Leicester this summer. Despite starring in a commandeering loan spell at Paradise in the 2018/19 campaign, former Bhoys’ boss Brendan Rodgers has questioned “Benko’s” fitness and commitment issues as current Cardiff manager seems totally reluctant to start him.
Speaking about the Croat, Rodgers was extremely critical of the man he took to Glasgow two years ago. “It’s something where we need to get Filip playing. He needs to get working again and show the level he can play at. Thankfully for myself, I’ve seen the level. When he was with me at Celtic he played against RB Leipzig and he was sensational. Since that first 10 games at Celtic, he hasn’t maintained a level of fitness and performance that I know he can, I have told the lad he can join another loan club if that will help him.”
Celtic were linked with Benko this year, in a cash-plus-player move for Kristoffer Ajer by The Foxes, which many Celtic fans – according to the article – would ‘take in a heartbeat’. However, ‘Big Ajer’ would be sorely missed in an already underperforming Celtic backline, and surely any potential deal for Benko would only be sanctioned without other players leaving.
Something to keep your eyes on over the next couple of weeks.

I just read it twice and was thinking the same. More lazy journalism.
I’ve been saying this for a few weeks but I really do have a feeling that he may well start tomorrow

Pointless keeping him if never going to play, time to bring a replacement in.

I’m wondering if he’s on a massive ‘pay per game’ but it would be pointless signing him under those conditions if there was never an intention to play him. The plot thickens

Probably a loan fee kicks in once he has played for us.

Can’t say he ll be missed because he’s never played,Morrison and nelson haven’t done much wrong to be broken up,but for me,they are to similar in their style, city need a central defender who s not afraid to attack the ball, rather than back off,may be Harris from what he’s seen, thinks benkovics is the same style as the other two,who knows?we ll find out why Harris never played him one day

I'd be surprised if true, but the 'story' is out there that it
'could' happen...
I'm sure I read somewhere that Brendan (Rogers) told him to
'buckle down' and prove himself worthy of a place to Neil Harris
Ironically, I don't think that is far away (his selection by chance or by design) and in Benkovic, I think we have a decent centre back waiting in Benkovic

At least we have cover - unlike RB - if needed in Bamba.
