The Blues have made Rodney Parade their temporary home this season while the Arms Park has been out of action, but the Newport ground is unavailable for the next couple of weeks

Cardiff Blues are to play their upcoming home Welsh derbies against the Ospreys and Scarlets at Cardiff City Stadium.
If things work out then more games will move to the Cardiff City Stadium in the future.
The Blues have made Rodney Parade their temporary home this season while the Arms Park has been out of action.
Their historic city centre base was initially unavailable through being part of the Dragon’s Heart field hospital complex.
Then, following the decommissioning of the Principality Stadium site, the artificial pitch had to be re-laid due to damage caused to the playing surface.
So the Blues have been playing their home games at the Dragons’ Rodney Parade.
But that ground is not available to them for the opening two weekends of January as Newport County are hosting Southend in League Two and then Brighton in the FA Cup third round.
So for the PRO14 home games against the Ospreys on New Year’s Day and the Scarlets on January 9, the Blues will head for Cardiff City Stadium.
It’s available to them, as Cardiff City are away on the opening two weekends of January.
The Blues previously played at the home of the Bluebirds for three years between 2009 and 2012.
But that move failed to go down well with fans, as attendances steadily dwindled, and they ended up going back to the Arms Park.

Terrible idea. Only have to see the damage caused to the pitch at Swansea and at Brentford where they also play egg to see the damage thirty fat bastards running around on a wet pitch causes.
Tell them to go and play on Roath Park - good enough for them.

I’m all for communal help but it can’t be worth it if the peanut huggers cut up our pitch which is rain sodden.

Very bad idea end off, never worked last time and will never work.

'Are they allowing any crowds in to the egg? This is a terrible idea, but even if they could have some crowd why can't they use somewhere like Glamorgan Wanderers ground? We don't want our ground churned up FFS.

I must admit I'm a bit surprised if this is accurate.
I seem to remember the club were quite keen to get rid of the egg when their initial agreement finished.
The pitch quickly got much better when they left.
Could I dare suggest that the club are looking at it purely as a way of making some money?
One assumes that there would be a charge to allow the Blues to use the ground?

Seeing as they've removed all the stuff for the Nightingale (was it Dragon?) hospital why don't they use the Millenium Stadium?

State of pitch hasn't affected Brentford or Swansea one iota.

I think it's only 2 games being played here the 2nd is a week before are next home game against Norwich. The pitch shouldn't be overly damaged and might benefit us against Norwich lol.

100% with you on this one - terrible idea and suspect we will sustain quite a few injuries because of the state of the pitch afterwards. Can only be motivated by money

It can only benefit us.. we have no intention of playing on the deck, so a roughed up surface will more likely hinder the opposition.

Hasn't affected Swansea or Brentford

With no crowds, couldn't they use the athletic stadium across the road?
Everything they need is there and time for that field to recover in readiness for the athletic season
I was a Cardiff RFC (not 'new' Blues) member for a few years and always enjoyed sporadic the games I went to; but sharing the CCS wasn't for me before they arrived the first time and what we witnessed then (state of the pitch) just entrenched my feelings
Two games doesn't seem much; but it could be enough to spoil the pitch and a precedence may be set

Hopefully they’ll play night before Norwich game , cut up the pitch and slow the Canaries passing game down

So how much do CCFC receive for allowing the rugger buggers to damage our playing surface? Anyone know?
Mon Dec 28, 2020 5:18 pm
Get some cash and cut up the pitch a bit for the fast, along the ground playing teams visiting. It's only for 2 games so got no complaints from me.
Mon Dec 28, 2020 8:32 pm
You never know if the rugby cut up the middle of the pitch we may have to revert to the long ball instead of playing the attractive football that we always play around the middle of the park....

thats ok..we only need the touchline for throwins and the corner areas to take corners. the rest of the pitch is redundant anyway.
