‘This can be really beneficial’ – Pundit breaks down Cardiff City’s pursuit of Leeds United’s Sam Greenwood

Former Leeds United man Noel Whelan has backed Sam Greenwood to ‘shine’ on-loan at Cardiff City next month, ahead of a proposed move.

The 18-year-old striker is being tipped for a loan move in the summer.

Joining from Arsenal in a £3million deal ahead of this season, Greenwood has been impressing for the Whites’ development side and a Championship loan looks likely in the second-half of this season.

Last week it was reported that Cardiff along with Bournemouth and Sheffield Wednesday were interested in Greenwood.

Speaking to Football Insider though, Whelan has outed Cardiff as a better fit for Greenwood:

“They play some decent football at Cardiff, they’ve got some very good players, a decent manager.

“This can be really beneficial for Leeds United and Greenwood’s step forward in progression, getting proper game time.

“He’s done exceptionally well since he’s come to Leeds United, he’s settled in really really quickly. He’s a player who’s banging in the goals. He’s done that from the start of the season.”

Formerly of the Arsenal youth academy, Greenwood has this season scored six in seven for Leeds’ development squad.

Cardiff though have struggled – they’ve proved indifferent this season and pressure has been flaring up on Harris, whose side sit in 12th-place of the Championship table.

They’ve been dealt an injury blow in the form of Kieffer Moore and Harris may well be reconsidering his striking options ahead of next month.

Robert Glatzel has come in and so far impressed.

But numbers up top remain light for Harris, and Greenwood could well become a prime target of Cardiff.

He’s a striker with bundles of energy and clearly an eye for goal – it’s always a gamble taking on a young player though and Leeds would be keen for him to feature fairly regularly.

Caution should be taken, but Greenwood looks an exciting prospect.

He'll go to Bournemouth or Swansea teams that actually play football.

Where does he fit though in the pecking order? Mark Harris was in the team during our best run of results and I wouldn't want his development to be hindered by a loan signing.

I’ve posted before on this - can he play RB or CM? Those are the priorities.

As far as I can see he has never played a proper game of league football even on loan. All his games have been at age group level. Not sure where he will play. Is he a replacement for Glatzel or Wilson. He should be better than Harris who doesn't seem to have a proper position and to me isn't really a striker but it looks an odd signing given what me need.

Can keep Benkovic company in the bench ....

No way would I send a youngster to us to play hoof football .
After playing at Bournemouth, Wilson must wonder at times if it’s the same game !

This report is a week or so old now and it has been said Bielsa doesn't want to lose a player he rates very highly and sees as a big player for the future

Leeds structure means that all their teams (from first team, to U-23's, youth teams et al) play exactly the same style in training and on the pitch, so I m not sure Bielsa would want/allow Sam Greenwood out on loan

Would be nice if he came to us, though... :ayatollah:

He wont want to be sat on the bench for 4 months so he's better off going somewhere else.

Don’t get me wrong City fan through and through but Cardiff playing decent football!???? This guy watching the same Cardiff?

Let’s look at Harry Wilson. Has he developed at Cardiff City? At the next Wales game will he be playing better football, no is the answer!

My advice would be to go to the Jacks or Bournemouth. Give us a bell in the summer.
