He didn’t say we couldn’t compete with Brentford

Sat Dec 26, 2020 8:45 pm

Absolutely 100% didn’t.

Check the comments he made.

He did say Brentford were a good footballing side like Norwich which they are.

He also said we couldn’t compete with Norwich squad and budget wise. Which we can’t (although we should be able to).

They are different things.

He said we can't compete with Norwich and it the same sentence said Brentford are similar to Norwich. That implies we can't compete with Brentford.

After today we can all say he was right.

We have actually outspent Watford and Norwich in the last two seasons plus spent more than Bournemouth this season.

Budget wise we are on par with these clubs outside of the premier league

On the pitch they have a year on us , next season if they don't go up they will come on par squad wise aswell

Ian you are a clever man. You can’t really believe that.

One was talking about how they play football one was about budget and squad.

Football wise we haven’t been able to compete with Brentford for a while.

I think it’s more that they had established squads which they kept intact as no one was buying their players after relegation due to Covid.

I mean Ake went to Citeh but they kept players mid table prem sides would normally buy.

Watford kept Deeney.
Norwich Cantwell and Pukki.
Bournemouth Brooks.

Yes but can they carry that on for two years if the fail to go up. Its gamble keeping them on premier league wages

You can read it a couple of ways but the bottom line is we cannot compete against not just Brentford but against the likes of the Jacks and I'm confident is saying a few more teams we are yet to come up against.

We are going backward and looking at the setup we have I can't see us going to where the Board want us. Whose fault is that. well that's another subject.

We finished above the jacks last season.

We competed against them just fine signing Wilson when they wanted him.

Can't see us finishing above them now. Mid table for us now while they slog it out in the play offs.

Did you say we competed against them just fine?

Are we talking about on the pitch or off?

I realise it changes depending on which agenda is being supported at the time for some but you are normally Better than that.

Off the pitch we finished above them last season, off the pitch we were able to sign two players (Moore and Wilson) that they wanted.

We lost to them quite badly recently but we aren’t great at beating them in our recent history sadly and have spent a lot of time in the league lower than them.

Off the pitch they sell players for £18m that come through their Academy. That's light years ahead of us. On the pitch they showed that they are light years ahead of us. When did we last score a goal against them.

It seems to me we can't compete with them on or off the pitch.

Depends what criteria you use.

We finished above them last year.

Yep, it is impressive they get £18 million for their academy players. What could we do with a player like Roberts as well.

However, us not having a functioning academy isn’t new. I did a post about the last player we sold who came from our academy. It preceded Tan and has never been that fruitful.

I know obviously you are turning this into a dig at Tan.
