Just what do you think might happen if you listen to this idiot Blair, you have 21 day to have the second jab so you use all the vaccine up inoculating more people, and then find you find that there is a delay getting the vaccine for the second jab.
The mind boggles. There is no date whatsoever to when we will get more vaccine.

Ex-Prime Minister Tony Blair is urging the government to give as many people as possible an initial dose of a Covid vaccine - rather than preserving stocks so there is enough for second jabs.

The Pfizer-Biontech and Oxford University-Astrazeneca vaccines require two doses to be fully effective.

Mr Blair said his idea would speed up the vaccine programme so the country could come out of lockdown sooner.

In the Independent, he argued the roll-out must be "radically accelerated".

The UK has pre-ordered 40 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and 100 million of the Oxford University Astrazeneca vaccines.

More than 500,000 people in the UK have now been given their first dose of the vaccine.

The two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine are administered around 21 days apart.

In a statement, Pfizer said this was needed "to provide the maximum protection", adding: "Health professionals are advised to continue to follow the official guidance on administration of the vaccine."

Ridiculous thing to say by Blair.

To be effective there clearly need to be two doses given - one will be no good.

Not that difficult to understand you'd think?

Get the old and the vulnerable and the frontline workers done as quickly as possible then end all lockdowns immediately whilst everybody who is not vulnerable can then get the vaccine if they want it at a more leisurely pace.

I can see his reasoning and it's not flawed logic, give 2 million people 40% protection instead of 1 million people 90% protection. The issue is he's got no background in medical science or epidemiology, his opinion deserves as much airtime as any random person on the street.

No doubt this approach was considered and deemed less effective than the current strategy.

It’s not 90% on first jab, it’s the Oxford they are waiting for not Cambridge and Blair’s plan is based on the Astra Zeneca (Oxford) vaccine.

For me, if someone has the first 'jab', the second dose should be set aside for the second to be administered when it is due

thing is if you give 1 million people the 2 doses { which i assume is recommended by the manufacturer } you also have 1 million people whose progress you can follow.... should you vaccinate double and then they all miss the 2nd dose you have no idea what effectiveness good or bad the vaccine would produce if administered properly..
blair all over...why not give everyone a quarter shot each and spread it even further..

Yeah I’ll give you a contributor. ISIS had been largely eradicated until the shit kicked off in Syria and then it went completely nuts. A massive failing of the West who pushed and pushed for the Arab Spring which allowed ISIS to become the force it became.

Certainly the Iraq follow up was littered with mistakes. But I don’t think Blair had a lot to do with that. We were a very junior partner in build up, during the war and post war. We ran Basra quite well and at the start the Iraqis liked us.
However as the Americans made blunder after blunder it quickly turned bad. ISIS started after the Iraq war but the American troop surge accounted for it pretty much. It was the Syrian war and destabilising impact on Iraq from that which led to the resurgence of ISIS. This was well after Blair was gone.

Having the vacine won't reduce the spread it just helps you fight it. You can still have coronavirus after having the jab and be contagious to others. It just means your body is better equipped to fight it resulting in less deaths and taking strain off hospitals

The 2nd jab only gives you an extra 5% taking it to 96% so perhaps blair is not so much a fool or the doctors and scientists backing the idea yesterday.

Yes apparently he explained that the american figures american scietists had stated 1st jab was only 52% but he explained that by the time your ready for the 2nd jab your own immune had built up to over 90% so you will have to use catch up to find yesterdays news bbc 24 news ch.

Is Blair now a Global Pandemic Expert ? - I know he has caused lots of global problems mainly in the middle East, caused 100,000's of deaths , created the vacumn that allowed ISIS to form. Opened the doors to mass immigration into the UK.

If he had fixed the problems he made - then perhaps people would give him the time of day. Imagine if Hitler post WW2 suddenly started talking about his solution for Israel and Palestine - I dont think the BBC would cover it.

There is a lesson in knowing when to stop talking - Blair never learned that.

This disease will have morphed into something whereby the vaccine will be obsolete by the time they sort
We have known the vaccine is the only way out and with months to sort out logistics
but it all seem so painfully slow.
Brain aches don' t do pracitical hand over to the army.
