BREAKING NEIL HARRIS IS BRUTALLY HONEST:

Mon Dec 21, 2020 9:41 am

FOR ME NEIL HARRIS HAS TO MAKE UP HIS MIND.

One minute we have to big a squad, full of quality, now suddenly he says we havent??
Harris needs to get the CCFC board to back him in January if he seriously and they seriously want to make the play-offs come May :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

But I respect Harris when he is totally honest like below :thumbright:
It sounds to me Harris is calling for backing from the board.

If Harris is still here in January then they will have to fully back him.

Neil Harris delivers frank assessment as Cardiff City torn apart by Norwich City.

NEIL HARRIS:

"Clubs like Norwich have got a more in-depth squad, a better quality squad, built from being in the Premier League last season and that's what we aspire to."

"Norwich have got some experience and some real energy in their play and you look at the changes they could make and it's quite phenomenal really, compared to our small squad."

"This was a game too far, my players were tired, they gave their all and i cant fault them, but our small squad showed on Saturday."

"We looked leggy, we looked laboured at times. We made errors that aren't normally at our levels."

"When you're playing against good teams, you can't give them opportunities like we did, especially at the start of the second half.

"I can't fault the players. Lack of effort? Not at all.

"They had Premier League players."

"They have some real energy in their play and you look at the changes they could make and it's quite phenomenal really, we cant compete with squads like that."

"That's what we want to be ourselves, a top-six side,I just felt, without criticising my players, the energy levels weren't there at all."

"We didn't get close enough to players, that half a yard makes a massive difference against top sides and we weren't able to do that."

"In January I will look to strengthen our squad."

I don’t think he said we have a big squad full of quality he said we have quality players and enough back up.

We do. We had enough to beat Birmingham and would have likely been ok against other teams in the league apart from the top few who are full of premier league players. That’s the point he made and he is 100% right. Norwich have a class squad. They have a lot of players who are premier league quality. Their lesser players are good championship players. Of course it’s gonna help them to keep them fresh.

That’s why they are going to finish top two.

We need to strengthen in January but we can’t pay over the odds.

Biggest mistake we made was not signing Chris Gunter in my opinion.

We won’t get another striker and nor do we need one.

We can’t afford a dynamic midfield player like a Kavanagh. Bacuna going back into midfield should help.

Neil I actually don’t want Harris sacked.

But yes for months and months he has said he has a big squad and full of quality on numerous occasions, then moaned after Wednesday home defeat, got told off by Dalman  and then kept saying he was happy again and now after Norwich defeat saying it again on reverse.

The squad in my opinion without a doubt needs numbers as injuries and suspensions happen a lot in Nov, Dec. Jan and Feb.

And your right the budget given will be small again .

Just a couple of players needed.

He’s not using the squad he has.

The budget will be more than most clubs around us like it was in the summer when we did really good business.

We are unlucky this year that due to the small preseason and Covid the relegated clubs were kept pretty much in tact.

Who would expect players like Brooks and Cantwell to be in the championship?

We have benefitted too. Who would have expected Wilson to be in the championship?

We've got a half-decent squad but I agree we need quite a few more, they are getting tired, I always say it's a long season and the strong squads will start to move up the table from Christmas onwards. Three games a week takes its toll!

Which I think is why we have had a run of 5 wins in 7. Our squad was stronger than most just isn’t as strong as the top in the division.

Re: BREAKING NEIL HARRIS IS BRUTALLY HONEST:

Mon Dec 21, 2020 3:28 pm

Would be interesting to know how many players Harris has used this season as he did say he was happy with the squad after the last transfer window.
Losing 2 of our most influential players in Tomlin / Moore (plus NML)has exposed us to a lack of depth.
If the board are serious about atop 6 finish they will have to get 2or 3 quality signings that will need to go straight into the side(otherwise we will have more Benokovics)
The problem is I think they want promotion on the cheap...

Re: BREAKING NEIL HARRIS IS BRUTALLY HONEST:

Mon Dec 21, 2020 3:33 pm

He’s spot on, our squad is no where near strong enough for promotion, 6th place at best, which I would be extremely happy with. Personally I think we ll finish 8th. We need to try and find some gems or tidy loans as we haven’t the money to be throwing about like other clubs. He’s doing a decent job imo keep him for now, until the fans are back i wudnt invest in any players.

Completely agree that we only need a couple of quality players in difficult January window unless we can get rid of any players not being used! Also agree we should have signed Gunter who can cover RB,LB and CB whereas none of our defenders can play RB? Players hardly being used by Harris despite being fit are Phillips,Day,Bamba,Filip B,Bagan,Cunningham,Pack,Whyte,Murphy. That’s nine players picking up a pay check to sit on the bench and of course we have at present 6?Injured players that’s 15 players not playing!

Re: BREAKING NEIL HARRIS IS BRUTALLY HONEST:

Mon Dec 21, 2020 3:43 pm

What gets me annoyed is on both seasons where we came down from the premier league we didn't keep the players capable of getting us back up. Alright we managed it due to a fantastic manager on the second occasion but Norwich , Bournemouth and Watford haven't had a fire sale like we seem to have to do. They keep their quality youngsters and give them the added experience in the second tier, we on the other hand have to rely on loan signings which if we don't go up they will drift away and again were looking at rebuilding. Lets bite the bullet for a season or two and bring our youngsters thorugh, and however good they end up being lets keep them and not look for the quick buck.

Re: BREAKING NEIL HARRIS IS BRUTALLY HONEST:

Mon Dec 21, 2020 3:56 pm

I would like to know why he hasn't played our greatest (paper) asset in Murphy. Something is amiss here and i would just like to know as a fan is it (as i suspect) player or manager. A definite starter in the premier league then a sub in the championship

I agree about Gunther, his leadership would have helped as well.

I am going against the grain here, but i don't think the midfield needs that much work at this stage. Obviously a right back but a wide forward is essential maybe 2 if Murphy leaves on day one of the window.

The midfield is not talented enough to drag you your of position but raw pace kills and we lack it.....Big time.

The loss of Moore and Tomlin has affected us big time. Plus Tutu.

Out of those you mentioned, bamba day philips, are obviously only sqiad players,Cunningham had a bad injury, benkovic has been unwell,so will feature at some point.whyte has featured,as has Murphy (just not performing!)and pack has also featured a bit(much to many fans disgust!) We have unfortunately picked up a few longer term injuries(tomlin, tutu etc)
I Reckon two starters in jan is what we need, and possibly all we will get? Three would be z bonus imho.

So Mr Harris is being brutally honest by saying the players are tired and “leggy”
He made two substitutions on Saturday one of them “ Pack “ has only just got back into the side over the last few games he’s a professional footballer - his job is running same for Ojo the other player he substituted hasn’t exactly been over exerted in recent games.
The reality is no one is denying there a lot of games at present but he loses credibility by stating they are tired then only using 2 out of 5 subs if your stating they are tired and making the same defensive mistakes at the back then change the problem, Nelson has been off form recently and you’ve got 2 centre half’s on the bench !!
All your changes have and always will be predetermined before the game starts irrespective of how the game is going ( injuries accepted ) Usually like for like after 60 mins , or if you have to chase the game it’s only then that put our best player Wilson in his most effective position at no 10.
If you study the managers who are successful they are the ones that make bold decisions at the right time, they don’t observe that certain players are tired until it’s too late in the game.

All well and good. But when we played 442 against Swansea he was criticised and it was said should have matched up.

He tries to match up in midfield and still criticised.

We looked tired against Swansea as well. That's what happens when you're chasing shadows all game. Harris needs to rotate the squad more.

A Rb has got to be a priority in January. It'll put bacuna back in the middle as well.

Any permanent signings will hopefully add a bit of pace and passing ability.

We did.

I think as he’s under so much pressure he didn’t want to change the team up.

With the injuries we are thin on the ground. Like you say, he is under a lot of pressure so he's clearly doesn't want to venture too far away from the strongest starting 11. Problem is we have looked tired and have picked up a few injuries. With 5 subs he needs to use the squad better to keep players fresh as the games are relentless.

Totally agree. He was happy to do that when winning 4-0 etc but we When the game is tight he won’t do it.
