CCFC TEAM NEWS : :bluebird:

Joe Bennett latest 50-50

Neil Harris:

We’re hopeful he’ll be on the training pitch tomorrow.

But as we’ve found in recent weeks it doesn’t mean he’s going to be available.

Nobody else available who missed out at Norwich?

No. Nobody’s going to be back in the group that was missing until the New Year. :thumbright: :bluebird:

Benno’s not worked with the group yet, we’re hoping he might be able to work with the group tomorrow but we’ve got no assurances on that so Benno, it probably is a 50/50 call whether he’s going to be available or not.

Neil Harris

Long term absentees include Kieffer Moore (hamstring), Jordi Osei-Tutu (hamstring) and Lee Tomin (groin), all of whom will not be in contention this weekend.

Isaac Vassell is also a long-term absentee.

About Brentford

Brentford Football Club are a professional football club based in Brentford, Greater London, England. The team compete in the EFL Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. Nicknamed "the Bees", the club was founded in 1889 and played home matches at Griffin Park from 1904 before moving to Brentford Community Stadium in 2020. Their main rivals are fellow West London clubs Chelsea, Fulham, and Queens Park Rangers.

Brentford initially played amateur football before they entered the London League in 1896 and finished as runners-up of the Second Division and then the First Division to win election into the Southern League in 1898. They won the Southern League Second Division in 1900–01 and were elected into the Football League in 1920. Brentford won the Third Division South title in 1932–33 and the Second Division title in 1934–35. They spent five seasons in the First Division, reaching a peak of fifth in 1935–36, before three relegations left the club in the Fourth Division by 1962. Crowned Fourth Division champions in 1962–63, Brentford were relegated in 1966 and again in 1973 after gaining promotion in 1971–72. They spent 14 seasons in the Third Division after gaining promotion in 1977–78 and went on to win the Third Division title in 1991–92, though were relegated again in 1993.

Brentford were relegated into the fourth tier in 1998 and won promotion as champions in the 1998–99 campaign. They were relegated in 2007 and won promotion as champions of League Two in 2008–09 and then were promoted out of League One in 2013–14. They had unsuccessful Championship play-off campaigns in 2015 and 2020. Brentford have a poor record in finals, finishing as runners-up in three Associate Members' Cup / Football League Trophy finals (1985, 2001 and 2011) and losing four play-off finals (the 1997 Second Division final, 2002 Second Division final, 2013 League One final and 2020 Championship final).

If the manager finds his Christmas balls and makes a change in formation, we could get something from this game

Brentford still 'on the up' but not infallible as they do concede almost as much as they score

Rarely predict a score but I always believe we can win before kick off :ayatollah:

As Norwich game proved we are a threat and yes slight tweak of play formation can bring us victory

We are terrible at Christmas. Recent Boxing day delights have included being thumped at home 0 v 3 by Southampton and 2 v 4 Fulham. The mighty Milton Keynes also turned up for a Xmas present 1 v 2 victory as well. You have to go back nearly a decade since our last Boxing day win, 2 v 1 against Crystal Palace in 2012. Frankly, I am not expecting that record to change! I think we can battle to a draw though. I will go 2 v 2.

What's the team news

Neil Harris is sweating on the fitness of left-back Joe Bennett, who he was hoping would be on the training pitch on Christmas Eve.

"But as we’ve found in recent weeks it doesn’t mean he’s going to be available", he said.

Speaking on Wednesday, Harris said: "It probably is a 50/50 call whether he’s going to be available or not."

Other absentees include Kieffer Moore (hamstring), Jordi Osei-Tutu (hamstring) and Lee Tomin (groin), all of whom will not be in contention to face Thomas Frank's side.

Isaac Vassell remains a long-term absentee.

What have the managers said?

Cardiff City manager Neil Harris:

"A well rounded team, Brentford, how they progressed over the last three or four years, they've been a good footballing side, a team that are on a long unbeaten run at the moment, in good form for getting through to the semi-final of the Carabao Cup.

"We’re mindful of that and we have to be at our best, we have to be better than we were at Norwich.

"We know Brentford are going to be a good side."

Brentford boss Thomas Frank:

"Injury-wise Pontus Jansson will be available for Cardiff City. The rest will be assessed to see if some of them can make it.

"One thing for sure is that Christian Norgaard will be involved in the squad. I am pretty sure we will see him on the pitch; I just need to see if he is starting or coming off the bench."

Vaulks levels Marcondes with a really big challenge from behind. A 'letting him know you're there' type of challenge, that.

Harry Wilson is clearly tripped on the edge of the box by Pinnock but no foul or penalty is given.

That was an awful decision. A clear foul there and Wilson is down.
