Neil Harris: “ A game to far / My players tired “

Sat Dec 19, 2020 5:15 pm

My view:
Every club had the same amount of games and you said your squad was big and full of quality but today it was totally outplayed.

Manager Neil Harris says Cardiff City's 2-0 loss at Championship leaders Norwich City was "a game too far" for his tired side.

Goals from Emiliano Buendia and Todd Cantwell gave Norwich a convincing 2-0 victory at Carrow Road on Saturday, keeping Cardiff 10th in the table.

That was the Bluebirds' ninth game in four weeks but they now have seven days before their next fixture, at home to Brentford on Boxing Day.

“ Today way a game to far to far, my players were tired.”

Err...Neil really?

Tired? Possibly. More effort today than last weeks derby.

You will ALWAYS be out managed by a more attacking technically aware manager dude.

He could try playing one or two of the others from your self proclaimed strong squad if the "best" eleven are tired and see how that goes...

Not gonna happen. He picks whatever the leaders in the dressing room want.

I’m not buying into that my players are tired well if they are tired put players in who are not tired it’s called freshening it up that infuriated me when managers say that and they are on thousand of pounds a week

We play a system that does not require skill, those who come here with skill soon get in the same groove and level of our walking and hoofball style of play Norwich could have scored at least 6 goals today it was like a training session for them our schoolyard style is bloody awful totally lacking in the basics of the game, it is embarrassing, it seems as if any skill a player may have when he comes to us is taken out of him good players are ruined by the way we are on the field we do not play football we are just spoilers and to cap it all our last manager Neil Warnock managed to transform Middlesbrough with a tanking win today, for gods sake get the video of todays game mr Harris and try to copy Norwich who at least have skills the are allowed to show,

'Energy levels weren't there at all' - Neil Harris delivers frank assessment as Cardiff City torn apart by Norwich City

The Bluebirds manager believes the clash at Carrow Road was "a game too far" for his players as they feel to a 2-0 defeat in Norfolk

By Glen Williams

Cardiff City manager Neil Harris has offered a frank verdict on his side's display against Norwich

A frank Neil Harris admitted his Cardiff City players looked listless in the convincing defeat by Norwich City.

The Bluebirds were architects of their own downfall at Carrow Road, conceding possession and gifting chances on a number of occasions.

Crucially, they afforded quality players far too much space and the classy Emi Buendia and Todd Cantwell scored richly-deserved goals as the Canaries cruised to victory.

There had been signs of deterioration of late for City, in the defeat by Swansea City and for much of the game against Birmingham City, however they managed to produce a stunning comeback in that one.

However, they looked well beaten in Norfolk and an honest Harris conceded Norwich were deserving of their win.

NEIL HARRIS:

"To me, it looked like a game too far for us," Harris said.

"We looked leggy, we looked laboured at times. We made errors that aren't normally at our levels.

"When you're playing against good teams, you can't give them opportunities like we did, especially at the start of the second half.

"I can't fault the players. Lack of effort? Not at all.

"But the goals summed us up really, we get split in midfield and maybe that half a yard off, all over the pitch, and when you give the players they've got those opportunities, even from 25 yards, they find the bottom corners.

"That's Premier League players."

Given the quality Norwich quite clearly showcased and City nowhere near their best, it highlighted a chasm between the top of of the league and a Cardiff side who hold ambitions of being in the play-off spots come the end of the season.

Harris believes his side have shown enough this term to prove they can cut it with the big guns in the division. Against the Canaries, though, he concedes is was an off day for his side.

"I think people will be watching that and thinking Norwich are a really good side and we weren't at our best, so it might look like a gulf between the two," the manager added.

"Ultimately, they have got a more in-depth squad, a better quality squad, built from being in the Premier League last season and that's what we aspire to.

"They've got some experience and some real energy in their play and you look at the changes they could make and it's quite phenomenal really.

"But we are capable of competing with the top sides and we have seen it this season at times and last season.

"That's what we want to be ourselves, a top-six side, and today I just felt, without criticising my players, the energy levels weren't there at all.

"We didn't get close enough to players, that half a yard makes a massive difference against top sides and we weren't able to do that today."

Really come on you can use 5 subs these days and you trimmed the squad down
just down the road they rotate the team does he really need instructions on how to run a squad so he does' nt put out a fatigued team
i have come to the conclusion he will say anything to stay in his job even warnock ran out of excuses eventually .

This game too far shite is wearing very thin.
Always seems to be against better teams who outpass, out run and outclass us in general. Amazing coincidence.

And that happens because we simply cannot string two passes together (well most of them) we have a piss poor pass success stat, always around or under 70% which to me is rather pathetic considering it's their jobs?? :old: :bluebird:
