Before today, people were going on about us winning five of our last six.
But we have been painful to watch during this period, it's some of the worst football we've played in a very long time - in terms of style.
When we come up against a decent side, we look miles off the pace.
That's why it was so easy for Norwich today, they didn't have to get out of second gear.
It's not that we have to play this way - we have players who are technically good.
Neil Harris seems stuck to this style and it's very hard to watch.
We are not in the top six, so it's not working.
I'm not sure anyone honestly enjoys watching this team play.

Spot on, the football is absolutely abysmal. If plan A of set pieces dont work then Harris doesn't have a plan B.

Which players are technically good? Which players do we have who can pass the ball at pace in a technical manner?
Wilson?

We havent played attractive football for years, only under warnock it was accepted, plus a fair few before him, warnock got away with it,because we were promoted, but its nothing new of the last few years!we dont play attractive football full stop.
Sat Dec 19, 2020 2:47 pm
Does anyone think Neil Harris is the kind of manager that can install an attractive attacking style of football?

We play like a pub side, with a few players played out of position, because not enough have turned up,Bacuna ain’t a right back for a start,Morrison and nelson both the same, for the second goal both back off,a good pairing have an understanding one attacks the ball one covers,Wilson is just wasted and he tries to live off scraps, glatzel just looks lost and Ojo hasn’t got the urgency needed in an attack minded player, always on to a loser today though, away to top of the table Norwich, our only threat was Morrison from a set play, could and really should have been a much bigger scoreline

Wilson, pack, bacuna, ralls ojo tomlin they've just got no movement in front of them full backs get a nose bleed once they hit half way, even if we played the ball into the channels for glatzel that drags the defender out of position creates room and makes teams have to fill in gaps we do nothing glatzel comes short we play it back then back to the keeper who kicks it long ball lost repeatedly.

I enjoy it because they are my team through thick and thin. Don’t want to watch games without the City playing.
Sat Dec 19, 2020 2:59 pm
I havn't got sky.So I don't watch the away games.
Season ticket so I get the home games on in tit net.

No movement from some of the players you mentioned.
Ojo is either really good or a passenger. Ralls awful today.
Game too far against an amazing team.

I said this yesterday but this type of football is only acceptable when we are winning. The trouble is though, this squad of players is most effective playing the way we are, as we've seen with recent results. If we want to change then we need a manager who has experience playing better passing football and we need two new ball playing CBs and more creative CM's.

I haven’t enjoyed many games this season and chose not to pay a tenner when u knew what u would get ....first game I’ve not followed in months.
The lack of creativity without Tomlin is demoralising .

Warnock promotion season , there were a some games at the start where we were playing good stuff in particular Aston Villa!
Since then , the odd moments but generally the football style on offer has been very boring and one dimensional.

Maybe Vincent should answer this..

I don't like watching some teams because spend 75% of game passing around themselves end up doing things while game is on so boring! I Call city frustrating to watch but like all fans its winning that counts.... take look at stats today forget the style of playing and there was not a lot between the teams and we even had lot more possession in their penalty area compared to them in ours? Yes we have undoubtedly not very technical players compared to lot clubs but football us about getting best out of what you got,
Harris had to change style because it was not working the passing game now playing to strengths results are there to see? Whether it's good enough for playoffs time will tell.... top 2 never realistic for most teams as relegated teams lot stronger than anyone else so 3 places to play for.
Sat Dec 19, 2020 4:14 pm
it is hard to watch we all want the best but we got no one looking for space when going forward we look dazzled by headlights hard for Wilson as everybody says out of position Harris doing best but no idea of his formation heads up hopefully still finish in top six just needs players in own positions and fight

I don't mind direct football, but there is method in the madness and we are shit at it. Warnocks 17/18 season was more direct, but it had skill, pace and a methodology.
As we have Wilson now the set play delivery is better and that hides the dross.
In saying that although Harris is dire its not his fault the squad is a limited as it is. Warnock transfer caused this as Ole's caused the Slade experience.
I got the Murphy and Decova Reid transfers. Young English should be able to get our money back (in theory)
Flint, Pack, Glatzel, Whyte, Vaulks & Nelson have really tried our hands. Not many players go onto better things after Cardiff, so we are stuck with them or ,must take one hell of a loss.
Losing the raw pace of NML hurt, Junior is on the downgrade. Murphy must be moving on as this is the quietest injury ever.
I can see Liverpool selling Wilson in a few weeks as his value must be plummeting week on week playing with this dross. At least he looks like he is trying....Ojo, I know a lot like him, but he'll end up like Jay emmanuel Thomas in some obscure league

When you think about the way Swansea have gone about choosing managers and coaches over the past 10 years or so its always been about the bigger picture and you can see the bigger plan.
We seem to do everything for today and our choices of management shows that. Even if we get promoted we wont stay up playing our brand of football and the sooner Vincent sees that the better.
I am completely fed up of seeing us being outplayed most games. In fact since Dave Jones left the football has been awful. Even during the promotion season's you can't say we were outstanding.

Outside of dave Jones when did we have a passing team? I'm struggling to remember even before him? Its easier to pick a manager to carry on the style of play if team already doing it..... like Norwich like city?
Norwich is passing game city more direct less passing so get managers to suit that style.. city need 6 players of passing ability to change things probably all defence and two midfielders!

Perhaps Alan Shearer fancies another crack in the hot seat. All about the big names these days to a lot of people.
Eddie Howe perhaps, give Eddie 15 months to settle his style of play with this squad. Im sure terraces and forum board will be on board with that, lol, lol.
If Mr Harris gets us in and around the play offs by easter thats a cracking effort.

I get frustrated by our lack of quality football compared to a lot of teams we play but it would take quite a lot of time, patience and potentially money to change. I dont think were blessed with all three. Not sure changing Harris would do it but the football can be very tedious

Must be me but I find a lot of teams tedious to watch passing for sake of it can be as tedious as watching same type football from city week after week! Lots teams cannot change way play even if losing 1-0 in injury time can't even get ball into pen area to attempt to score so fixed on passing it amongst themselves... can say city try best to get ball in area its only way going to score..

I agree with that allan but I'm not on about a passing for passing sake game I'd just like to see us cut out the aimless balls forward.
I'm not against a direct style of play if it suits our players but I think at the moment the ball is not sticking to the front man to bring in our so called wingers.
Direct and accurate yes. Not just lumping it forward hopefully

What's wrong with city's way is there is no support upfront! If you look at stats we were in their area more than they were in ours and by quite a margin considering who we were playing..... but chances didn't reflect this so the problem appears too be support for glatzel or moore which was a complaint yesterday, poor glatzel had no one within 30yds of him and actually can say same about rest of team supporting each other get this right and see less aimless balls
Sun Dec 20, 2020 11:41 am
Our sole tactic seems to be to get the ball forward into a position so we can win a corner, free kick or throw in and then hope Morrison either gets on target or we get a knock down within 12 yards of the goal. Dreadful stuff.
Sun Dec 20, 2020 12:48 pm
Football has been dire for years. Warnocks era was crap to watch but at least we won and had a year in the Prem.
Harris is clueless and we need rid of him and a few players ASAP . It won’t happen of course and having people like Wilson etc for a season will be completely wasted.

People seem to think that its either long ball football or needless passing along the back 4 , with nothing between the two styles. You can play direct football without lumping it long all the time. To do that though you need defenders capable of passing it out from the back and pace and creativity in the middle. We have neither. We also play with no width. Inevitably everything goes long and better, well drilled teams can easily defend against it.

At end day Harris was forced to revert back to a system that suits the players we have and it's worked! But if h we did manage promotion we are screwed because hardly one player is good enough to play in premier league and would need 12 new players to make a go of it.. personally I think we need either a new manager end season who as history of playing expansive football or keep Harris cheaper option? but with both scenarios we need major backing to get in the players to alter totally the ethos of side to a passing game
Sun Dec 20, 2020 1:34 pm
I am 100% with Allan and Cendle, i prefer direct football over tikki taka or whatever they call it nowadays.
Liverpool are very direct they get the ball into the danger areas quickly, its not aimless stuff smack it to the big man and hope for a flick on or win the second ball. Its get it to the two wide forwards who always run diagonally straight to goal. The full backs stopped being defenders ages ago and are far more offensive than defensive minded.
Malkys football was excruciating to watch, he strangled the joy out the game, but he had Whitts hitting long balls so they were super accurate and because of him we held onto the ball far more than we did with subsequent managers. We rarely made needless passes and when we did our fan base groaned like fcuk. And therein lies the problem. The vocal majority alway love a up and at them trier over a cultured class player, "get it forward mun".
Moore is superior to Glatzel in nearly everything and Harris found out he is a lot better with help, so what does he do, leaves Glatzel on his own with Ralls as a 10. Harris has no history with the style we are talking about. We need to find a German or European experienced coach who can coach the patterns of play. We also need a DoF to help recruit the right type of player.
