MY VIEW: BLUEBIRDS V BIRMINGHAM CITY

Wed Dec 16, 2020 9:28 pm

It was probably a good thing that the Bluebirds had a game so quickly after Sunday's debacle; an opportunity for manager, team and supporters to reset and push on with their (Sunday excepted) recent good run of winning form

The start was positive and City looked the better of the two teams; culminating in the opening goal falling to the rejuvenated Robert Glatzel, who came in to replace the injured Keiffer Moore

After that, the Bluebirds seemed to go off the pace a little and allowed Birmingham into the game more; a Bluebird trait this season or so it seems

Another home 'mistake' after a foul from Nelson allowed Birmingham to equalise with a seemingly typical (from the Bluebird point of view) from Marc Roberts and the rest of the first half seemed to be theirs for the taking

HALF-TIME: CARDIFF CITY City 1 - 1 BIRMINGHAM CITY

The second half started with the Bluebirds looking a lot better but still not creating clear cut chances and with lots of fouls flying about the place, a sending off from this 'newbie' referee was not out of the question; although he did appear to balk at the opportunity to do so when presented? :?

The game continued to ebb and fro with some good, some indifferent and some bad from the Bluebirds...

The the game burst into life when Birmingham took the lead before the Bluebirds missed a penalty, ironically facing Bluebird great Neil Etheridge, through Robert Glatzel in the absence of regular taker, Joe Ralls

Some evidence of Etheridge moving forward off his line but it wasn't given and to be fair, it's what he used to do for us

It was hard not to thing the game was drifting away after that. After all, we hadn't mounted a successful comeback before the Stoke City game since 2019

But after that miss, the Bluebirds seemed to find an extra gear and suddenly burst into some sort of life that saw them score two late goals and make their comeback of the season after suddenly burst into some sort of life...

The first goal came from Harry Wilson and I have to say the set up pass from the much-maligned Marlon Pack was superb! :notworthy:

City were suddenly in the ascendancy and pushed forward searching for an equaliser; although it wasn't as if Birmingham had given up and they had chances of their own

But then it happened; Captain Morrison stepped up to the mark and was left unmarked as he headed the ball into the Birmingham net from 5 yards to put the Bluebirds back into the lead in the 89th minute :notworthy:

City saw out the rest of the game, although Birmingham did have one decent opportunity, to take all three points from a difficult game that saw them yet again cause their own problems before turning it around to take a very good win :D

FINAL SCORE: CARDIFF CITY 3 - 2 BIRMINGHAM CITY

Foot Note: For me, this was an ultra important game that saw City show all sides of their character; poor decision-making, individual errors and a steely determination to get back into a game and then win it!

That's five wins out of the last six and the table is once again looking good after poor early season form to make us (oft fickle) supporters a mildly happy bunch

Maybe we can start easing the memory of Sunday's debacle out of our minds....until Saturday at least! :laughing6:

That's the impression you get tonight? Not the most fluent performance but we still won game and deserved to ... if just for the comeback which is not very often that we do that.

Chris, Nah Harris was lucky tonight I think against the next 2 we will be punished (I hope not) but something is not right within that team that’s why they are up and down.

He’s still hanging by a thread but as we know it’s a results business. Can’t fault him for that however we should be a lot better than what we are seeing. Keep safe fella

Hard to disagree with that, Karl; so I won't!

Stay safe yourself and enjoy the 'happy' feeling for a day or two! :D

Harry Wilson is class.

Marlon Pack's slide rule pass for the Wilson goal was quality.

Pack so reminiscent of Glenn Hoddle.

C'mon City
