Yet a couple of injuries/suspensions to players (again like with Vassell our club should have known Moore was gonna do that) and the squad depth comes up as a means to beat the club. In all seriousness, many including me, have asked for the youngsters to be blooded into the first team but that has to be countered by ability and a certain league ambition

Nelson, Bagan, Harris and others have had opportunities but the simple fact is we don't have that many who can currently take the next step

Given our poor attitude towards 'cup' games, opportunities to 'test' aren't going to occur too often either

I've criticised performances and results, 2-0 down at qpr before having a shot. 1-0 defeat at Coventry, 2-0 v Swansea or Wednesday etc etc.

You could maybe forgive it if we were playing a majority young side but the 2 youth players we've played is bagan for 2 games and Harris for 5. 18 league games and we've started 1 youngster in 7 of them... You can't hide behind youth with them stats. (ironically we've actually picked up more points in them games than the others)

I’m not defending performances.

I’m saying that when people criticise the squad size in light of Moore’s injury and Ralls’ suspension it’s a bit hypocritical when they want youngsters to get opportunities. How do youngsters get opportunities.

The Oxford centre back we wanted was Dickie. QPR are going to make a lot of money out of him.

they can do a lot worse... its why those that left have had decent careers and the vast ,majority in our academy will play non league..{ its not a footballer is a footballer is a footballer } ..im not suggesting we should have kept any out of contract players.. but not replacing and living in hope the academy will produce multiple first team players who are being pushed not by their ability but by necessity is a huge gamble...

It needs to be balanced. You need enough senerior players so you're not totally reliant on youth but not so many seniors that the youngsters have no opportunity. Obviously you need youth players good enough to e able to step in when needed. Which is what happened with bagan. Injuries gave him a start and he took his chance and showed he is good enough. He'll probably feature in a few more games this season and build from there. Either bennet or cunningham won't be here next season so he'll be second choice. That's how it should work.

It is not financially sustainable to have a big squad of senior players unless you have parachute payments or fetch decent transfers. We won't have either next season.

It needs to be balanced. You need enough senerior players so you're not totally reliant on youth but not so many seniors that the youngsters have no opportunity. It was, and I think we've done well to trim the squad down. Ward was well liked but extremely injury prone and now we have Mark Harris coming through it was definitely a good decision to let him go.

It was, and I think we've done well to trim the squad down. Ward was well liked but extremely injury prone and now we have Mark Harris coming through it was definitely a good decision to let him go.

I can almost imagine the person saying about Ward, had we signed him and he was injured again.

Why the bloody hell did we give him a new contract?
