Spare a thought for us.

Sun Dec 13, 2020 2:36 pm

In my opinion unless you live in Neath/Port Talbot or the surrounding areas you don't get the real feel of the hatred the jacks have for us, its bred into them to hate all things Cardiff from a very early age.
Its not the Port Talbot Jacks we have a problem with as most of us have close friends who support them but once you go over the Briton Ferry bridge its a different world.
I used to work for a company based in Swansea and got along really well with 2 guys there until they found out I was a Bluebird, they never spoke to me from that day onwards!
The derby means so much more to them than it does to us.
The majority of the Swansea players and staff live within the Swansea area so get reminded on a daily basis of how much they hate us and how important it is to beat us, hence Coopers show of unity with the whole squad and backroom staff on OUR pitch after yesterdays game.
I dont think for one minute our players and staff are given the same treatment from our fans as I believe the majority of our players live down the Vale, Newport or the other side of the severn bridge so dont have the same daily contact that the jacks have with their players etc.
Spare a though for us who live west of bridgend, we have a torrid time ahead of us.

I dont understand cardiff fans from port talbot. They (you) complain about people from south wales supporting teams like manu, liverpool etc yet you have done the exact same thing and that is support a team that is not local because they are more successful.

Anyway i dont think you can blame swansea fans from hating cardiff with a passion -
1. Sam hammam comments " swansea will never be a big club" " bigger than barcelona"
2. All of wales investment going to the city of cardiff
3. FAW panel of 12 having 7 cardiff city season ticket holders resulting in every appeal from cardiff getting overturned etc
4. BBC wales always showing highlights of cardiff whilst barely mentioning swansea

With all that in mind, it makes swanseas success of reaching the premier league first ever more impressive.

Coming from Bridgend the sighting of anything Swansea City was rarer than rocking horse shit .All the old school were bluebirds but now there seems to be loads of them .Thats what happens when a side gets a bit of success. most are young so just take no notice of them but i would imagine Port talbot is a lot different .Best of luck for forseeable .you might need it .
When i was younger there were loads of loons from PT .PINCH OBNAIL PIPER FLANKER AND TONTO to mention a few.

Of the 4 points you have raised i'll give you point 1 & 2 as fact.
On the other points there was one Cardiff City season ticket holder on the disciplinary panel and 1 Swansea City fan, I know both personally.
The others were affiliated with welsh league clubs so spent their Saturdays watching there local welsh league club and not Cardiff City.
The rest of the committee was made up of FAW members from Mid and North Wales.
For the record I started following Cardiff in the mid 70's as there used to be 3 coaches going from Port Talbot to all home games.
Swansea at that time never had a coach going, although they did start one from The Beach Hotel a few years later.
Swansea were then a 4th division team with crowds of 2 to 3 thousand Cardiff on the other hand were a 2nd division side and always considered Wales' biggest club, as they are today.
Being a teenager back then in Port Talbot it was considered cooler to be a Cardiff fan than a Swansea fan so wanting to be in with the crowd it had to be Cardiff for me even though as a kid Leeds were my team.
After going to 5 or 6 games I got the Cardiff bug and Leeds were history.
Lots of boys my age wanting to be cool were also jumping on the bandwagon and pretty soon all became a fully fledged Bluebirds.
Up until your Premier League days Port Talbot was always a Cardiff town but that has changed with the younger generation wanting to watch Premier League football but also supporting one of the bigger clubs too.
We are all in our late 40's and 50's now and still go along with our sons daughters and grandkids so Port Talbot will always have a strong Bluebird following

My mate is from PT, and became a Swans fan because his Mum wouldn’t let him go to Cardiff because it was too rough..ha ha

Also know a load of lads from Carmarthen who support Cardiff... hate the Swans deeply. Why I don’t know. Everyone is looking East it seems, including us..most Swans fans I know are alright. A few are real dipsticks tho..come across as a bit dim

what a lot of Swansea don’t know is that we where in the old first division for many years when Swansea was only classed as a town hence they where Swansea town and never played in the old until they got promoted under toshack we got relegated in 1962 from the old first division and we never returned but even in division two we where still the bigger club

I've always had the utmost respect for buebirds in the port Talbot, neath area. Know a few having worked there for 16 years and have noticed in that time a shift in fanbase numbers towards the jacks. Was definitely a stronger cardiff contingent when I started there.
To be fair most of the Jack's I know are good blokes to be honest. I'd be ripped apart for a shift then crack on until the next time

Very true, but a lot have drifted back to their first supported team now that Swansea are no longer a Premier League team.
Not so many kids wearing Swansea shirts nowadays either.

Interesting stuff this. When I grew up on the Sandfields I started to watch the City when I was nine. Bus from Western Avenue chemist, always full. I distinctly remember going to a Welsh Cup Final ? second leg at the Vetch with around 20 kids all Sandfields in 1969 I did not know any Swans fans. There again I was a little kid but among my peer group not one. Equally I knew of one Liverpool fanatic a mate's elder brother who was about 15.At school I knew about 2 Liverpool fans. Guess what they started to win things and there are literally hundreds of them. I am friends with a real Swans fan who would go to Carlisle on a November Tuesday in Division 4. She scoffs at all the bandwagon Johnnies and has stopped going completely. I suppose it is your perception but Port Talbot in my opinion was always a Bluebird stronghold. Just my pennethworth really.
