Ivan Toney

Sun Dec 13, 2020 8:23 am

Has anyone seen this guy playing yet!? I started watching Brentford or at least keeping up to date with them on the back of last season.

This guy is incredible. Tan I hope your keeping eyes on the calibre of players in teams just above us.

Could you imagine having 15 goals this season!!?

I’m impressed by Moore don’t get me wrong. If someone’s playing with passion at Cardiff it’s him! But with him potentially out injured or getting injured further on in the season I think we’ll come unstuck.

Tan/Choo - C’mon then lads! Hands in pocket time!

Hes on 15 goals out of 15 games I think ! But as it's been proven only get goals when team plays an expansive game we sadly haven't done so since 2008 and Dave Jones... until this is addressed we will carry on huffing and puffing with occasional success helping to keep the status quo of conservative football.

Can't see them selling him.

Brentford have done an incredible job of unearthing strikers in recent years, selling them in for millions of pounds in profit. Ollie Watkins signed for 1.8 million, sold for up to 33 million. Maupay signed for 1.6 million sold for 20 million, signed for, Andre Gray sold for 11.2 million, Scott Hogansold for 10 million, signed for 750k. On top of that they've been a conveyor belt for millions of others too in other positions. Benrahma, Mepham, Konza, another 45 million in the last 12 months. There lies our problem, we overpay for journeymen, we have no scouting network whereas little old Brentford are a brilliant template for how to run a club well. They can afford 5-10 million for Toney, who will arguably get sold for more than Watkins.

You are absolutely right - our scouting network seems to be non-existent. Its no just Brentford; Swansea, Peterborough and a few others have conveyor belts of replacements lined up before these big money players are sold, so they just slot into the team. The really weird thing for me is how they consistently seem to get better despite losing their biggest assets. Zohore aside, which was a fluke deal, when was the last big money player we sold?

Recently it came out they've spent 70m and recouped 160m ! But must remember for all their fantastic signings we have been in premier league twice since they changed their transfer system they have today? You sell best players you are less likely to succeed in long run! You can see tans dilema two promotions with old fashioned football very hard to abandon thus for pretty football that hasn't got success for most clubs, it will need a total revamp of club and players to change present situation.

What success he all these players bought them ?

Zero

No point getting these players if you only ever have one of them at a time because you keep selling. Brentford are going nowhere with there current transfer strategy and the luck of finding these players will run out. It didn't take much to Scout Ivan Toney everyone knew about his talents , they were just the team that took the gamble but to do that they sold there best player which to me is pointless.

Yes they've been selling best players and replacing with what they hope is another who is as good.... for all our shortcomings we still manage to get promotion and challenge top 6 ... hence can see why tan won't change strategy well not now anyway. There are fair few clubs in championship that are replacing 4 or 5 players every season because they've got them on loan that doesn't give continuity something we have for better or worse.

If they had kept those players they would be in the premier League and comfortable. The fact they can only afford one of them at a time without selling shows a big issue with there transfer model.

Yes it's about getting young foreign players improve them and then sell at a profit .... much harder to be consistent when got to replace a goalscorer especially every season! Perhaps that's why we've been relatively successful we keep same type football and despite changing players it doesn't appear to weaken us ..
