Cardiff will have to be better to beat the Swans

By Tom Coleman

Wednesday 9th December 2020

Historically, City haven't really enjoyed visits to the Potteries, having previously not won here for 15 years.

For around an hour or so that record showed very little sign of changing.

Cardiff sorely lacked the imagination, creativity and sense of urgency that we've seen in recent weeks.

To come back and claim victory then showed tremendous character - arguably the sort needed to gain promotion - particularly at a ground where even the great Lionel Messi would, according to some of the darker corners of footballing punditry, struggle to cope.

Neil Harris talked up the "confidence and the belief to come from behind, against a team that are in top form".

He's bang on, but let's be clear here. Cardiff simply cannot afford to start like this against their big rivals this weekend.

Yes, there won't be any fans, and it may well be a strange atmosphere, but the cut-throat spirit of a Cardiff-Swansea derby is highly likely to remain.

Having failed to beat Steve Cooper's men last season, and with Cardiff looking to make up ground, it's perhaps the Bluebirds who will be feeling most of the pressure heading into this weekend.

Bad performances are often punished in derby matches, and Harris will need his side to step up their game.

I can see a derby draw, possibly goalless.

Playing the Jacks, you really have to get your tactics spot on... and take your chances.

Let's hope the boys realise what it means to the fans to beat the Jacks.

Hoping for the best but would take a draw

Seen nothing to say we cannot get a positive result providing we play to our strengths... :occasion5:

If the team that beat Barnsley, Luton and Huddersfield turn up we're sorted. If the team that lost to Coventry turns up we'll get mullered. If the team that lost to Brizzle and beat Stoke turns up we have a chance at the draw.

On a very thinly related tangent...

Does anyone remember when Andy Goram got diagnosed with Schizophrenia and the Rangers fans (I think) chanted there's only two Andy Gorams. Remember pissing myself when I heard that, great chant and Goram took it really well as far as I seem to remember

Hes like a spoilt brat spend entire game diving and berating officials because he didnt get freekick! Be interesting to see how they deal with our style of play because they normally play possession football between penalty areas wearing teams down or boring them to death! Not sure if had a shot on target 2nd half tues (ssn) and previous game won with a deflected goal, hopefully Harris keeps to way we play best and let them worry about us instead..

And Connor Roberts....always throwing himself to the floor, screaming and rolling around.

We might need to freshen the team up a bit. Same 11 for 4 games on the trot has left us looking a little tired.

Quite proud of our boring football that puts us in the top four.
deflected goal. I suppose that depends on which goal it's deflected into
