Still No Benkovic

Tue Dec 08, 2020 10:40 pm

Great win tonight but can’t get my head around why he still hasn’t played one minute for us. 13 million pound quality player yet like Saturday we bring Bamba on instead of him. Nothing against Sol but his best days are behind him.

Strange would love Harris to clarify what the situation is.

Yes,but he's been here sometime and people want to see what we have, understandable, but so is keeping the same back four together after successive clean sheets,no Goodoubt giving him 2/3 mins! I guess patience is a virtue, although at one point I nearly posted to get Morrison off!! As he was having a mare up until his goal. :old: :bluebird:

its all a bit strange... but he only has 2 apps for Leicester...67 mins in an FA cup game against Wigan last season and half an hour as a sub against fleetwood when 3 nil up in the EFL cup the season before last...

If it was a season long loan he can't be recalled unless we agree or we're in breach of any agreement that was written into the loan guaranteeing a certain number of games.

yes im aware of the rules... guaranteed games is a different thing altogether, some loans have clauses others do not....but yes clubs can agree to end a loan under certain circumstances...and if it was on sky there is more chance of it being true than the silly twitter thing..

Pretty sure the whole "Benkovic has been recalled" story was a crock of shit from a fake Twitter account. If you've actually seen it on Sky I apologise, but as far as I'm aware he's here to stay (and warm the bench it seems).

Look how long it took Alex Smithies to get the call ;)

I understand the frustration with Benko, but we have just won 4 out of 4, 3 being clean sheets and people are complaining he isn’t playing.

I’d be furious if Nelson or Morrison missed out after recent performances, just to give our new boy a game. He will get a chance but it doesn’t matter if he’s a 13m CB, he still has to earn his place in the team!

That’s fair enough about not changing a winning formula but that run has only been going for less than 2 weeks. He’s been here for 2 months now and was fit enough to be on the bench for a few games during our really poor run from a few weeks back before the recent stretch of good games.
I’m wondering if he’s carrying a knock the club don’t want to mention.

Bamba has been brought on before him , to shut up shop . Probably because Sol has played with the other two and knows what to do .
To fetch Benkovic on , too see the game out , may be risky . Imagine if he made a mistake ,and we ended up drawing or losing , he would be crucified on here.

he was on the bench against Preston 2 days after signing and again against Bournemouth.. then was absent from the match day squad { i have no idea why } returning to the bench against Millwall away. im in no rush to see him as it will probably mean things are going wrong

I agree at the moment we shouldn't fix what isn't broken, I just find it surprising that during the run that nearly saw Harris get the sack he didn't try using Benkovic. I'm also surprised he didn't come on against Luton when we were 3-0 or 4-0 up, I understand using Bamba against Watford and Stoke as it was a tight game and Bamba's experience with the defence would be helpful but Luton would've been the perfect time to give Benkovic 20/30 mins playing alongside Morrison, Bacuna, Smithies etc in an environment that isn't the training field.

Maybe Harris is saving him for Taffs Well tonight

tbh mate i find the Benkovic situation at Leicester a bit strange.... payed 13mill for him and almost immediately sent him out on loan to Brendan Rogers and Celtic { happens quite a lot so ok so far } ... where Rogers is playing him.. roll forward 6 months both now at Leicester and Brendan shows no interest in him and ..hasnt given him any minutes in the league saying he isnt ready for the prem and loaning him to ourselves even though they have a defensive injury crisis themselves ? ..maybe its just me but i do find it a bit odd that a manager who has faith enough to start him in an old firm game a few weeks before leaving and taking over Leicester then shows so little interest

Good point actually, I'd not realised the Rodgers connection before. I can see the argument he's not ready for the PL but to not play him as a late sub or in the League Cup/Europa League etc is quite odd.

i get the prem bit too... but not required for the type of games youve mentioned in a season where games are condensed and youve already got an injury crisis does seem quite a drop ..
