Five Subs

Mon Dec 07, 2020 9:36 pm

One to ponder
Is our recent upturn down to the fact that we can now utilise 5 subs?
Does this allow Neil Harris to have the confidence to be more positive, knowing he can change the way the team plays by having the likes of Glatzel, Hoilett and Murphy coming on to keep up the attacking momentum yet being able to throw on the likes of Pack et al, to shore things up
His league record of 5 subs since last seasons lockdown and the few games this season stands as
Played 14
Won 9
Drawn 2
Lost 3
30 points at 2.14 points per game - promotion level

Yes. With five subs we have good situational players to influence a game. We seem to have a few players in Murphy, Pack and Glatzel who are good subs in various ways.

Pack is clearly a player you bring on to steady the ship but never to start or to chase a game.

Glatz has a great attitude to be fair and a bit like Wardy, he watches from the bench how he can exploit the oppostion.

5 subs really seems to have helped.

Against Watford our 3rd, 4th and 5th subs came on in the 88th minute.
Against Huddersfield our 4th sub came on in the 89th minute and our 5th sub came on after 90 minutes.
Against Luton our 4th sub came on in the 76th minute and our 5th sub came on in the 86th minute, when we were 3-0 up and 4-0 up respectively.

I'm not sure what the upturn in our form stems from but apart from the Luton game, which we were already comfortably winning, Harris doesn't seem to be utilising the tactical advantage of having 5 subs as much as he could.

Whatever it is though, long may it continue :bluescarf:

spot on
what it does do is give him a safety net regarding a possible injury in the dying minutes...but from a tactical point of view no, he has not used it...

Don’t think it is when the 4th or 5th subs come on i think it is more how quickly he can get may two or three subs on now knowing he still has two subs left he can use in case of injury Also i think we have a stronger bench than a lot of teams in division

Yes I noticed this after lockdown last season, I think it's mostly down to the quality of the bench and that we have so many players that can come on and change a game, he has cover for almost all situations.

In truth,he hasnt had to utilise it so much, especially of late, but I always advocated 5 subs for this season, and it definitely goes in our favour,as we do have a strong bench,if needed.
