‘ NEWPORT COUNTY ‘

Fair play to them and I really Hope County get promoted this season :thumbright:

We were arch rivals in the 70’s / 80’s but for me they are our neighbours and I now have many good friends, we all move in and times change :thumbright:

Not really rivals we only played them 5 times in the entire 70s all in the welsh cup in the 80s there were a few league games and welsh then they went bust.

Be nice to see Newport , Cheltenham and Exeter get up to our league. Some nice easy away trips instead of 4 hour drags every other week

Massive rivals on and off the pitch to the Cardiff Casuals including myself, the Jacks were a joke compared to Newport :thumbright: :thumbright: :thumbright:

Maybe off the pitch but as I said if you check the history we haven't played them that much. I can see them being held back by the fact they don't have their own ground.

They absolutely hate us

Make no mistake about that

The feelings mutual.

I work in Newport and make no mistake they hate us! Looking historically, we’ve only been in the same division in our FL history for 10 seasons, all in the 30s and 80s. For comparison, we’ve played Liverpool and Man U in more league games than County.
I supported City throughout the 80s and went to Somerton Park twice. Even then I never got the feeling we were massive rivals, compared to the likes of Swansea and the Wurzels. Though in 83 we were promotion rivals.

Yes they do hate us.Yet if Jimmy Andrews Hadn't organised a fundraiser South Wales 11 v Man U they would have had no club to call Newport afc.
My old man and grandad used to take me to both county and the city.
It as when I was in the schoolboy enclosure when we beat man u 3-0 in the early 60s I became a fully fledged bluebird.
We used to get on the football special in newport and get off at ninian park halt.all free as my old man was a railway worker.

I remember Boxing Day 1982 when the County made it 2-2 late on, but Jeff Hemmerman scored the winner straight from the kick off for 3-2!
