Cardiff council

Sat Dec 05, 2020 6:44 pm

Was talking to a friend who took his grandkids to city centre to go into the castle and lap up some xmas spirit.when he told me how much it had cost him by the time they left for home, was shocking.
Anyway,do you think the council has mossed an opportunity to give the kids a little bit of joy this year, especially because all they have heard is,covid, covid, covid.
My belief is they should have had some free rides for the kids, and decently priced beverage and food(average £5 for a roll of meat,£3-70 For a tiny bucket of candy floss, and tea & coffee at extorted prices!! Cost him close to £120 for two hrs in town, with 3 kids.
I think the council missed a good opportunity to brighten these dark times for tje little ones.am I mad,? I dont think so.
Thoughts anyone?

It’s not a council event. It’s organised by sayers amusements and they take the profits

Cloud cookoo land if think ccc will do anything for their citizens other that attack motorists! But yes would have been nice for vendors to give a little without ripping off people, suspect it wasn't council but private vendors selling refreshments ect so nothing unusual about prices, admission is councils responsibility so could have had minimal price to cheer people up..:old:

Common sense for anything like that is bring your own food/drink. Be it festivals, theme parks, winter wonderland, carnivals etc. They're private stalls that need to charge through the nose to make profit, normally they're the only options so they can get away with charging high prices as usually the events are held in fields or out of populated areas. Why anyone would buy from these stalls though when they're in the heart of the city centre though baffles me.

A few festive bakes from Greggs and bottles of pop from Poundland instead could have saved him a few quid.
Got to be grateful that Sayers haven't gone under with the lack of events theyve been able to put on.

The Council take a (large) fee on all events like this... ;)

Re: Cardiff council - cost of closing Castle street

When the council saw an opportunity to shut down Castle St and make it an eating area (which everyone knew people would hardly use) and then no more than 3 months later , the Council decided to re open it to buses and taxis after saying it was a "great success"

WELL GUESS WHAT ? - it wasnt a success, the cost of making the changes to the road, setting up the area, staff costs, annd equipment costs were just south of a million pounds (I have seen the FOI document)
With regards to the number orders taken by restaurants - they raised 425k , but obviously all that money goes to the restaurant owners etc.

So a little under 1 million spent, nothing come back into the Council coffers and in return they have pushed all the traffic on to lower Cathedral Road, Cathedral road as well as boulvevard De Nantes etc. Fecking chaos all with car /. lorry engines causing more pollution with their engines idyling.

This is why cardiff council wont do anything for your kids at christmas mate.

ps - there was a very interesting connection between the ex chief exec and the firm that was awarded contractys to run the big weekend / food / drink etc.

No idea didn't know we had anything going on? But will say all councils now are out to make money no matter what? Tenby spectacular in summer ruined because council allow 3 or 4 bouncy castle things onto beach result no one can sit on beach to enjoy a drink and barbecue as in previous years all to make few pennies! 40p use toilets car parking extended charges 8am to 7pm ect ect.. but dont start me on ccc .. :D

Had two vending trailers for years, and yes of course they should make a profit, but having experience in these type of events, there are margins, and there are take the piss pricing! Perhaps the council should have gave them a reduction on rates,so as to make prices reasonable to all?
Anyway it hasn't happened, and I would 2nd a poster above who says go pre loaded from greggs!! :old: :bluebird:
