MY VIEW: WATFORD V CARDIFF CITY - MOORE OF THE SAME, PLEASE!

Sat Dec 05, 2020 5:06 pm

This is a game I wouldn't usually expect the Bluebirds to win and I have history on my side to back that up

The opening few minutes did nothing to dispel that lack of expectation, as Watford technically had the better of the opening period but without really threatening the Bluebirds goal

Throughout the game, Watford showed glimpses of their footballing class and the Bluebirds had to back pedal on more than one occasion

However, the Bluebirds stood up to Watford physically ad grew into the game nicely, creating a few threatening opportunities themselves; one of which resulted in the only goal of the game from a good finish in a melee from the in-form Bluebird Keiffer Moore

Watford had a late opportunity but thankfully it came to nothing

HALF-TIME: WATFORD 0 - 1 CARDIFF CITY :bluescarf:

The second half started with a clearly admonished Watford on the front foot and the Bluebirds were forced back for much of the opening period before finding their feet a little

The pattern of the second half was pretty much all Watford possession with the Bluebirds defending the ball and doing it pretty well on the whole without really getting forward themselves to threaten the Watford goal at the other end

Watford got a little bit tense as the minutes ticked down and had to resort to cheating, as Perica was booked for a clear 'dive' in the Bluebirds box with a strangely low figure of only 4 minutes injury time (remembering the number of subs plus injuries) flashing up on the board

The game petered out, as Watford resorted to odd tactics in order to secure a win, including knocking a free kick wildly over Smithies bar

A late corner from a Sol Bamba deflection was easily dealt with but the returning ball should really have seen Watford draw level; although it looked likely to have been declared offside anyway

A truly superb, if somewhat unexpected, 3 points for the Bluebirds away at Watford to collect their third win of the week

FULL-TIME: WATFORD 0 - 1 CARDIFF CITY  :notworthy: :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

This was a better result than may first appear. The Bluebirds don't have a good record at Watford and anyone watching our recent games there will have seen the class that Watford have in their squad

Two weeks ago, Neil Harris and his side we're (rightly) taking pelters for both results and performances but it really does seem that Harris has got his side formation right and they are no playing with similar style and confidence of the post-Covid period of last season

Things are finally looking up for the Bluebirds and (for me) the main reasons are the forced alterations to the Bluebird formation and the acquisition of Harry Wilson and Keiffer Moore; both of whom are finding their feet in their respective ways right now :D

After a win like this, all we can say is MOORE OF THE SAME, PLEASE! :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird: :D

This was a fantastic result. I agree with Sven that we have by hook or crook found our best formation and we want Moore of it!

That’s the exact sort of performance that is needed to get out of the championship

A hard earned win against one of the best teams in the division

It was solid rather than spectacular and pretty much every player put in a shift

Defensively very good indeed and not the the first time this season both CB were outstanding

Decent performance from Mark Harris again today which was another bonus and Keiffer is a handful at this level

I think this result surprised a lot of people (including me). It was almost too much to ask City to win a third game in a row and keep another clean sheet - but that's exactly what we did. The Coventry defeat was seen as unacceptable; the sort of game we should, absolutely, be winning. But in the Championship, anyone can beat anyone - and Coventry have done well since - so maybe our defeat to them wasn't as bad as it seemed at the time. But Coventry did us a favour; gave us a wake up call; sparked us into action and in consequence we have seen an increase in confidence that may see us climb into the top six by the New Year. Confidence can make the difference between a team struggling in a relegation battle - which many of us were expecting - and challenging for promotion, which is what many of us are now hoping for.

I dont recall the many, actually thinking we would be in a relegation scrap, but may have missed their posts? But correct, things had to change, one way or another, and they did,and performance wise, the players have stepped up to a man, long may it continue, and come jan,we are roght in the mix,and get a couple in to add to what we have, then we could well achieve what we all want, promotion.

i thought we were too good... but after them not sacking him immediately after the Coventry game i did have a few days thinking another one of those and we will have to start looking down not up and could well be dragged into it...thankfully it turned around ..went from going to one of the worse teams ive seen at this level and playing with zero intent or belief to 3 games later going to one of the favourites to go up full of intent and belief...

Agreed, always said on paper we had a strong team and just a matter of getting the players in the right formation and playing forward thinking football.

Well done lads - we seem to have found it - not just results wise but performance wise as well.

There were the usual over reactions to the defeats about possible relegation scrap and having nothing to play for this season.

I like what you did with moore of the same.

I’d wager there’s about 20% of posters who wouldn’t notice lol.

On social media yesterday I actually saw looseing instead of losing. Loved it.
