Neil Harris:I was the driving force in making the decision

Thu Dec 03, 2020 3:50 pm

Nathaniel MG Cup, your views on giving fringe players competitive action?

NEIL HARRIS:

I was the driving force in making the decision. It’s a Welsh national competition I think we should be in it.

If the fixtures fall to get some minutes into senior players I will use it, but predominantly it will be used for under-23s to play against men.

I wanted to be respectful to the competition and Welsh football as a whole.

We discussed it with them (FAW), they were really happy for us to be in the competition and we really appreciate that.

It’s a national competition and I think it’s the right thing.

The under-23s average age is under 19, we are a very young group. So if they can compete against senior players, ex-pros, is really important for them.

Fair play,if it gives the youngsters a taste of what they are aiming for on a regular basis, the average age is very young for u 23's,and goes some way in explaining why reults aren't what we would like/,expect. But good news imho,it will bring the ones who are good on no end.

There has been a lot of talk and digs at the club recently regarding results of the under 23s, Harris quote that the average age is under 19 is bang on and the main reason this year they are struggling. This competition will be good for them .

I've criticised Neil Harris a lot recently.

But he deserves credit when it comes to bringing a few players from the development squad into the first team squad.

He said he would do that in his first interview when he got the job and has been as good as his word, with Joel Bagan and Mark Harris benefitting recently.
