NEIL HARRIS:

What a difference a week makes… what has changed?

Two wins! It speaks volumes in the changing room, breeds confidence. Clean sheets, scoring goals, people doing their jobs.

Defending as a unit, attacking as a team. Belief and confidence.

What changed? We knew we hadn’t been good enough. I credit my players for responding to criticism.

But we know this is a starting point. That has to be the norm now and we have to continue that.

Didn’t follow it up against Barnsley, can’t be flash in the pan?

A flash in the pan is a game. Back-to-back performances are a big statement.

You have to carry it on.

It’s the level of performances and the way they play. What they are giving to the shirt and the football club.

We have had that desire in abundance the last two games.

Injury-wise?

We are good. No issues from Tuesday night.

NEIL HARRIS:

Do you think it has been a turning point, the defeat at Coventry?

Possibly. I don’t look at results like that. I look at performances the last two games, hugely positive performances and results speak for themselves.

I look at Watford now and think, good opponent, but everything we have done in the last two games we have to do again and compete in the week ahead against Watford, Stoke and Swansea.

Schedule, if you get it right you can rocket up the table?

NEIL HARRIS:

Yeah, lots of ifs and buts in that. It’s one game at a time.

We took it one game at a time the last two and we have to make it three in a row on Saturday.

NEIL HARRIS:

Watford home record is really impressive, how good are they?

I watched them last night against Forest and over the course of the season and they have got good players.

They are a team who will think they should be standing out in the Championship this season and returning to the Premier League.

We know it’s a tough challenge but I’m not too fussed about what they are doing, I’m focused on us.

It just echoes what I’ve been saying the last few days, it’s about our standards, qualities and what we do.

We have to stop the opposition, tactically it has to be right, no individual errors but the football has to be as positive as the last two games.

I think we are a match for any team.

I thought Bournemouth were very good against us. Other than that I haven’t seen many teams who have been better than us this season.

We don’t fear anybody in the division, that’s for sure.

Playing in front of fans…

I’m not fussed if Watford fans are there or not. We are not going to see fans back in our stadium, we have spoken about that hindering us.

It is what it is, the Welsh Government have made their decision.

Watford fans, not fussed.

Football as a whole needs supporters. I’m quietly pleased for teams that are getting supporters back, every sport needs them.

But unfortunately we are not in that position to welcome our fans back.

Does it have an effect? If anything it will spur my players on. It will have more of an away game feel about it.

A siege mentality?

We will certainly mention it before the game. 2,000 fans in a 26,000-seater stadium, there will be more of an atmosphere.

Any stadium with home fans in will have more of an atmosphere.

NEIL HARRIS:

Nathaniel MG Cup, your views on giving fringe players competitive action?

I was the driving force in making the decision. It’s a Welsh national competition I think we should be in it.

If the fixtures fall to get some minutes into senior players I will use it, but predominantly it will be used for under-23s to play against men.

I wanted to be respectful to the competition and Welsh football as a whole.

We discussed it with them (FAW), they were really happy for us to be in the competition and we really appreciate that.

It’s a national competition and I think it’s the right thing.

The under-23s average age is under 19, we are a very young group. So if they can compete against senior players, ex-pros, is really important for them.

NEIL HARRIS:

Training match vs Newport yesterday, how useful was that?

It was brilliant. Really good, really pleased Newport could come over. A competitive game in a training ground environment.

Dillon Phillips played, Greg Cunningham, Sol Bamba, Benko would have played, Gavin Whyte played, Josh Murphy, Robert Glatzel played some minutes.

And then some young lads who had been doing well for the under-23s. Really pleased with the minutes.

It’s not about the result, it’s about the lads getting minutes and getting through it. It was put on to get some game-time into the players and it was a useful exercise for myself and Michael [Flynn].

NEIL HARRIS:

Robert Glatzel, Kieffer Moore and Mark Harris all confident heading into a crucial time of the season…?

The three strikers, Kieffer is on fire at the moment, all parts of his game. Sparky has come in and made a real impact in the group.

Robert has had the weight of the world on his shoulders for that first goal of the season. He’ll be like a new man now, having been in that position myself.

That’s really pleasing for me.

It’s not just them three, it’s the attacking players. If you look at Sheyi Ojo’s contribution, Harry Wilson’s quality and contribution and then Junior Hoilett who came off the bench to play a big part the other night, really good to see. A lot of the attacking players are being productive.

Transfer window coming up, what are the priorities?

No thought on that at the moment, certainly none that I’m going to share. It’s a long way off.

Yes, I know where we are, start of December, four weeks, but we have got seven or eight games until the transfer window starts.

There is a lot of football to be played, injured players to come back into the group. I have some ideas where we need to strengthen.

But you get to that stage where some players might want to move on to pastures new and get some football. We will have to cross that bridge when we come to it.

At the moment it’s purely Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday.

The derby coming up…?

We know the importance of it. I can’t hide my excitement over it and that will be for everyone. But we have just got to focus on Saturday, then Tuesday and then the South Wales derby.

It will be lovely to go into that game in the same confident mood we are in today. But we need to put in the same two performances we have been in the last couple of games.

But I have to focus on Watford away.

Breaking news:

A bit of breaking news for you this afternoon.

The Premier League has agreed to provide a £250million bailout package for EFL clubs, it was announced today.

The EFL Board voted this morning to take the money on offer from the Premier League, which will be available immediately to address the immediate financial challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The package includes £50m in the form of a grant and monitored grant payments for League One and Two clubs and an interest-free £200m loan facility for Championship clubs.

It means each of the 24 clubs in the second tier could now access £8.3m each.

Neil Harris approaching make or break time

Fans, Club and Directors need to fully back Harris.

By Scott Johnson

SCOTT JOHNSON:

"There is no better sounding board than a football crowd. If a performance is lacking, expect to be booed off. If an individual is excelling, it is likely to end up with them having a song in their honour. It is a meritocracy and lets you know exactly where you stand.

"Of course, there have been no crowds for about nine months now and in their absence, we are left with only social media, which is always hysterical. It veers from one extreme to the other, with very little in between. You’re either going up or going down.

"In the last few weeks, the Twitter hive mind has had their sights set on Neil Harris and it hasn’t been pretty.

"A downturn in results and performances has seen some turn on Harris. He has been accused of being too boring, too negative and too not very good.

"These are not the best of times though and you wonder if the current climate is also playing a part here. Locked down during a worldwide pandemic, what else have we got to do other than immerse ourselves in our local club more than ever before?

"Every word of Harris’ press conferences are poured over for signs of negativity or weakness. In my opinion he is often misconstrued, but when you bear in mind that three games a week results in him appearing before the press six times, is it any wonder that they start to bleed into each other?"

"We the fans and board need to fully back Neil Harris."

'Long may it continue' - Kieffer Moore on the new partnership that could help fire Cardiff City to promotion

The Wales international has been left impressed by Mark Harris' contributions to the first team in the last few days

Kieffer Moore admits he's been impressed by the impact of Mark Harris' recent introduction to the Cardiff City first team, and says he's already struck up a strong partnership with the youngster.

Harris has played the last two games for the Bluebirds, subsequently helping his side to convincing wins over Luton Town and Huddersfield as Cardiff recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Moore himself netted a brace against the Terriers on Tuesday night, adding to his strike against the Hatters on the Saturday - a game that saw Harris also find the net.

And the former Wigan Athletic striker admits he's enjoying playing alongside the Wales Under-21 international, while also finding praise for fellow striker Robert Glatzel.

KIEFFER MOORE:

"I've seen Mark play a couple of times for the Wales Under-21s and he's obviously seen me play too.

"I think we've both got a good understanding of what each other like to do and I think we complement each other very well.

"You saw Bobby's goal when he came on too - he took it extremely well and it was a very good strike."

The mood in the City camp appears to be high heading into Saturday's clash with Watford, a huge contrast to this time last week, when manager Neil Harris looked to be under real pressure after a sorry run of just one win in eight games.

But Moore insists everyone is sticking together as City bid to fire themselves up the table.

"We knew what we had to do and we all came together - staff, manager, players, everyone - and we ground out two great results at home," he said.

"We highlighted areas that we wanted to work on and I think we've implemented that really well, scoring seven goals in the last two games and keeping two clean sheets as well.

"That's really what we need to stick to now for the rest of the season and if we play along those lines, we'll do just great."

Fans, great to see them back, how do you feel in terms of fairness?

It’s not fair, that’s the bottom line. Nobody can say it’s fair.

There is definitely a game to be had with your fans in the stadium, without shadow of doubt.

If that goes into the derby and Swansea have them later in the season… I’m certainly not going to knock the tier system. We will go to Stoke Tuesday and they won’t have fans because of the tier system.

You hope it evens out over the course of the season.

You can’t bemoan it too much, but it’s not fair.

Loads of ideas about how to get fans in for it. I’m not going to get into a debate about what the Welsh Government should do, that’s for the hierarchy of the football club.

Re: BREAKING NEIL HARRIS:

NEIL HARRIS:

What do you make of Watford?

Good players. A team that wasn’t expected to be relegated from the Premier League. They have got a massive squad, an embarrassment of riches, but it’s the Championship.

The amount of teams clustering at the top, middle and bottom. People always question the ability in the Championship but it’s as good as ever.

If you finish above Watford then you are going to finish in the top three, or maybe even top two.

But I worry about getting us right and getting in the best possible condition to stop them and affect the game the other way, being proactive and aggressive.

Yeah, Huddersfield was well deserved. Luton was a thumping and they beat Norwich, which tells you everything you need to know about the Championship.

The players know they have set their standards now.

Re: BREAKING NEIL HARRIS:

Concussion subs, where do you stand?

NEIL HARRIS:

It is a real tough one. It’s hard because protocol is protocol. We saw the Wolves doctors take care of the player and he’s gone off and I’m glad he is doing well. Then what should happen to David Luiz? You have to follow protocol.

I’ve seen players say take them off, sub them, bring them back on, that seems even more dangerous to me.

If we are going to make a rule for them to come off, that has to be set in stone. If you’re going to do that then the Premier League are going to need more substitutes.

You could make three subs by 60 minutes and then a head injury. You need a provision somewhere.

I’m all for safety and welfare.

Re: BREAKING NEIL HARRIS:

Thu Dec 03, 2020 4:10 pm

NEIL HARRIS:

You wouldn’t let them go back on like in rugby?

My question would be why are you taking him off in the first place? You watch cricket now. The ball hits the helmet, the doctor comes on immediately. The ball is dead and they deal with it, concussion test and then they come off or stay on.

If we talk about that in football, I’m not sure about that. What is a knock to the head? What if the ball hits you in the ear?

It’s hard to nail that down. If there is a danger to the player then they come off, that’s as simple of that.

Re: BREAKING NEIL HARRIS:

Thu Dec 03, 2020 4:11 pm

NEIL HARRIS:

What have you missed without fans?

Atmosphere, banter with away fans. It’s about the bigger picture. If football was supposed to be played behind closed doors we wouldn’t have had fans for 100 years.

Football coverage on radio, TV, the press, has been fantastic, it’s gone to another level, but it’s the fans that make it.

That’s why I talk about an unfair advantage.

Not a single person can tell me it’s equal with fans at away games but not home games.
