Who fact checks the fact checkers?

So total deaths compared to 2019 are up 65,997 (I didn't check further back). This data was collected from the Office of National Statistics and I only used data up to calendar week 46.

There is an increase, yes. How much of that is related to Covid, I don't have those numbers. But I do know deaths relating to dementia are up 79%, deaths from cerebral palsy, heart rhythm problems, diabetes and Parkinson’s disease also increased more than 70% in England. Across England and Wales hospital deaths are down, whilst care home deaths are through the roof.

When I have more time, I will look even further back than 2019, to have a greater sample and comparison.

Regarding the second point. Pneumonia and flu deaths are lower than any year since 1976. What does this prove? Nothing really, although some of those deaths could have been counted as Covid deaths. You'd need to do a deeper analysis to find that out though.

Regarding the final point. I don't think anyone actually has any idea on how many people have been infected. And if they're using the same data sets as they used to predict total deaths for Covid in March, you can bet your life that theyre miles off again.

Anyway, dont use fact checkers as a source of truth. They are generally funded by large corporations to push their agenda. The name fullfact gives the assumption that everything is true, and their goal is to make you believe that. For example, the International Fact-Checking Network is financed by George Soros, Google and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Google is well known for censoring information.

People love conspiracies, I think the plane that hit Pentagon is under the sea somewhere if I recall as well.

Are we saying every country in the world is tanking their economy on purpose?

Just follow the rules people , inquest after.

"We rely on donations from individuals, charitable trusts, and corporate supporters"

Individuals and corporations have their own interests, not facts, at heart.

The tanking of the economy will result in more centralised power for both governments and large corporations. Whilst small businesses and the average person become poorer, bust or unemployed, the worlds wealthiest individuals and corporations have made huge profits this year. Having society locked down is certainly benefitting their personal interests.

Where do you get your info/news from out of interest mate? Pretty much everything is owned by an individual/corporation so does that mean nothing can be used as a source of reliable info? You also said Google is known for being censored so again I assume you Googling anything for reliable info is off the cards?

This the problem with the modern world in where do we turn for the truth if everyone one is lieing.

So many experts on Brexit, Covid and world affairs. Everyone's got an angle....... what a fuc... .m mess.

Re: Covid fact checker

I am literally astounded that people on this planet read the line "Factchecker" and consider it gospel!!!

If I knocked up a website called "SuperFactChecker" would you then move to that as the gospel written word?

Please wake up FFS and do proper research.......you are fed a lie by the MSM, but you assume it to be fact, because you are sheep, and self policed by the other sheep around you who will shout you down if you offer a considered alternative way of thinking, with words like "Conspiracy Theory" (invented by the CIA), or New Age Thinking or many others.

They believe you are sheep and you walk to the water trough just as a lemming walks over the cliff.

Fact check that.........

I'm not saying everything on Google is bad, but they use algorithms to push up certain stories and to suppress others. In terms of where I get my info from, I usually follow independent journalists on Twitter. If I use Mainstream media, I will use more than one and try to find the source they are referencing, because there is almost always a spin in the story. I just try and follow the facts rather than the spin, but we're all guilty of confusing facts with spin from time to time, no doubt.

No it wasn't, the CIA was founded in the 40s and there's examples in print of the term 'conspiracy theory' being used far before that. Where did you hear that absolute bollocks :laughing5:

You can't throw a wobbly and tell people to 'wake up and do proper research' then end your post by regurgitating some incorrect 'fact' you've read in a facebook/twitter post mate, although it does go a long way towards revealing what you actually consider 'research'.

Sound advice that.

I try to read a variety of sources and before I swallow. For now on Covid Im Just chewing and will eventually decide whether to spit or swallow.

For now it's best to follow the rules rather than be a smart arse and risk killling someone's grandparents or parents/other.

Feel free to post those facts of "examples in print" here. Just in case you were unaware you have a green face revoluting after one of your sentences....not sure what that is but it might be a glitch on your machine.

Back to the substance, if you honestly believe that the CIA did not push that term I am surprised. But that said, it is irrelevant, you seem to have missed the main point, obviously glitched by the green revoluting face, Factcheckers, as stated by the OP, is not in fact fact.

To conclude then, nothing to worry about. Tell all your grandparents and parents to act as nothing as changed. Tidy!!!!

Google Ngram viewer - https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?c ... ry%3B%2Cc0

(that shows how frequently the term was used in literature across different dates).

Digitised version of an article from 1909 with the term 'Conspiracy Theory' in there - https://archive.org/stream/jstor-183708 ... 5_djvu.txt

Massive different between 'invented' and 'pushed the term' so please don't confuse the two and put words in my mouth.

I don't think one person across this thread has said that fact checking sites are always accurate though have they? Someone posted a link to fullfact and everyone is up in arms about it for some reason haha. If there's something that isn't 'fact' in the links OP posted please enlighten me.

A new American study, which was published and then removed from the John Hopkins website, suggests that there has been no change in the amount of deaths in the US, in comparison to previous years. What they found was that the decrease in deaths from other causes, equally matches the increase in deaths from Covid. They used data pulled from the CDC website.

the middle one..
a widely shared facebook post.....really ? by who exactly ?

its make a claim that some unknown people are spreading a post....then accuse these UNKNOWN people of cherry picking all while not actually coming clean and saying... flu figures are actually surprising low whether you compare to the worse years or not...
its the sort of stuff the emotional blackmailers have been pumping for 10 months..... and to be frank, would not need to if the absolute truth was reasonable...

Why are you saying unknown repeatedly are you saying that these people aren't real and it's been fabricated for the purposes of making a fact checking article? If you genuinely want to see who shared it just click the hyperlink and scroll through all the shares on facebook.

Flu deaths are lower this year and that is stated in the article in bold right at the start 2020’s flu and pneumonia death figures are low. They're not 'surprisingly' low though. As has been repeatedly posted on here - Lockdowns + social distancing + working from home + wearing masks + increased hand washing + additional PPE being used in care homes/domiciliary care + everyone being a lot more careful around vulnerable relatives = less transmission of flu and less flu deaths.

so in a nut shell flu deaths are lower surprising low as all the TV announcements re flu vaccines along with the government seemed to think it would be the opposite..

First of all that article is from September like you said. The data in the article being discussed and posted by OP is Jan-August so anything which happened after August would not be reflected in the figures and has nothing to do with the article.

Secondly even if it was relevant, that article says absolutely nothing about expecting flu deaths to be higher. It talks about the risk of catching COVID and flu and the dangers this may pose but says absolutely nothing about flu deaths expected to he high?
