NEIL HARRIS:

"Ultimately, Vincent, Mehmet [Dalman], Ken [Choo], Steve Borley, they are the ones who count," he said.

"Everyone is entitled to an opinion in modern society, I get that, but, to me, what matters is what we build in-house, within our changing room. But also what the thought process is of above.

"I spoke to the board, they want success. Mehmet spoke a couple of months ago about January, being in the top six and wanting to challenge and that’s a realistic expectation for us. That’s my job to deliver that.

"I spoke to Vincent yesterday, talked through what went wrong and where we can improve. He cares, he’s interested. He’s invested a lot of money into the football club and had huge success in doing it as well. He wants to be successful.

"We built that last season, we built that expectation when he brought me into the club. Naturally, you want the same again. He knows my personality, work ethic and that’s why he brought me in.

"But, ultimately, he wants the club to be successful and I know that."

Harris insisted that Tan did not give any ultimatums over what results are needed over the coming days, but he, the players and, importantly, the fans know that the two games coming up will go a long way to deciding the manager's fate.

Speak to the board since Wednesday?

NEIL HARRIS

I spoke to Vincent yesterday, talked through what went wrong and where we can improve. He cares, he’s interested. He’s invested a lot of money into the football club and had huge success in doing it as well. He wants to be successful.

We built that last season, we built that expectation when he brought me into the club. Naturally, you want the same again. He knows my personality, work ethic and that’s why he brought me in.

But, ultimately, he wants the club to be successful and I know that.

Any ultimatum?

No, Vincent doesn’t need to give me ultimatums. We have a fantastic relationship.

I’ve shared some of the conversations we’ve had and the rest might stay between me and Vincent.

Big game, you need results, what have you got to do to change results?

NEIL HARRIS:

I think we have tried to change the way we’ve played and approach games, the style of play. The majority of it has been really good. The two penalty areas have been the problem. We’ve not scored enough, we’ve conceded the first goal too often. When we have conceded the first goal it’s because we have made errors. I’ve asked players to adapt their play. I may have to be a little more pragmatic in my approach to some players. We have to find a way of putting teams under more pressure. I have to consider personnel, style of play, formation, all those things considered from a Wednesday to a Saturday.

What’s it going to take to come through it and get back on track?

I think we can’t underestimate the first-goal mentality. At the moment, without that fan base in the home and away games, the first goal is really key. We have done that too often.

We have been masters of our own downfall. We’ve conceded 13 goals in 13 games which isn’t a lot. Ultimately, we have given poor goals away and then we are not efficient or ruthless enough at the other end. When I talked about being loyal to players and the way we play, rightly so because you have to believe in what you do. I’m not going to say too much but I have to look at it and say you have to change certain things, just adjusting. We have to adjust. Sometimes you put your hands up and say you need to adjust and look at different scenarios.
