WALES v FINLAND
Wednesday 18th November 2020, 7.45pm
UEFA Nations League
Cardiff City Stadium
Crucial match for Wales, in our final Nations League game of this campaign.
Permutations
If we avoid defeat, we will win the group and be promoted to League A.
If we lose, Finland will win the group and be promoted to League A - and we will remain in League B for the next campaign.
If we win, we will more than likely qualify for the World Cup 2022 qualifying play-offs through the Nations League.
Connection with World Cup 2022 qualifying
The European qualifying for the 2022 World Cup is set out as follows:
- World Cup 2022 qualifying group winners will automatically qualify for the tournament
- World Cup 2022 qualifying group runners-up will enter the play-offs
- The two best Nations League group winners (based on their overall UEFA Nations League rankings) will also enter the play-offs - obviously, providing that they haven't won their World Cup 2022 qualifying group or finished as runner-up in their World Cup 2022 qualifying group
- The format of the play-offs had changed. It will involve two knockout rounds and three teams will qualify for the 2022 World Cup through the play-offs.
- Our 2022 World Cup Qualifying campaign takes place between March 2021 and November 2021, with the play-offs taking place in March 2022. The draw for the qualifying groups will take place on 7th December 2020.
Match odds
Wales - 5/6
Finland - 100/30
Draw - 5/2

especially considering the amount of changes... we must have used nearly 30 players in the 5 games to date...

Wales are the only team in the Nations League not to have conceded a goal

That is truly remarkable stat for a team that's never had a 1st eleven to pick from in any of their games! no matter what opposition they played.

Can't see anything but a Wales win by 2 goals

Good start by Wales, already forcing Finland into a couple of mistakes.

Finland down to ten men very early on.
Uronen sent off for pulling back Harry Wilson when he was through on goal.

I still think a red card for those offences is harsh. I would rather see a penalty goal given or a penalty kick instead of a sending off . It can ruin games this early on.

I know what you mean, but don't think the referee could just book him in that situation.
Rules need to be changed for a penalty goal or something like that, as you say.

Good save by the Finland goalkeeper to keep out a dipping cross from Norrington-Davies

Bale close to getting the opening goal but another good save by the Finland goalkeeper

GOAL: WALES 1-0 FINLAND
Great ball from Bale and Wilson finishes it well

Wales totally dominating now

What a cracker of a goal that was! Bale with a pinpoint pass into Harry Wilson who drills it home from close range. 1-0 Wales

HALF TIME: Wales 1-0 Finland

We need to push forward a bit quicker another goal and it's over but as long as just one always a risk of conceding especially with pukki in side.

GOAL: WALES 2-0 FINLAND
A brilliant long-range strike from Dan James

Not going to score if keep ball outside their area? We bring on moore but dont use him..... as we've seen they are capable of scoring

See what happens when you put ball in middle!

3-1 should have been lot easier and comfortable for us..

Well done lads - Job done .

Great result for us but fair play to Finland who in the 2nd half took the game to us. I felt their attacking was excellent and our defence did well to keep it down to just the one goal.
