Wales lead Finland by one point at the top the group. Neither of the other two nations in the group can catch us.
So, we will be promoted to League A if we beat Ireland and Bulgaria beat Finland. Any other set of results will see it go to our final game which is against Finland on Wednesday.
Republic of Ireland are looking to avoid relegation to League C, and are currently one point ahead of Bulgaria.

Normal would be a good game but in the back of everyone's head must be the fact that if Wales win, both will qualify for a major tournament.
Wales will by topping the group this year and Ireland would be relegated which would put them in pot 3 for the next league which in reality will give them a easy route next time Against teams like lithuania , belarus and Azerbaijan instead of Czech Republic, Wales, Norway.
Surely Ireland won't be going all out to win this game ?
Its not in there interest as they gain nothing by winning but gain a lot by losing .

Strange scenario to this game I believe that when planning these competitions such scenarios should not be able to happen

so if we qualify for the World Cup through this tour meant why should we play in World Cup qualifiers if we have already qualifiedmaccydee wrote:thomasblue wrote:Pembroke bluebird wrote:It will be very interesting what side is picked looking forward to this one

How does this work?
Are we in the World Cup if we win? Are Ireland if they lose?

Yes may get easier group next qualification rounds into euros but when it comes to taunement they will get technically a harder group than Wales if they qualify? If you are in pot A top group you dont get another big country so Wales will benefit..... if in pot B can get 2 top countries in group..... so the higher group your in technically get easier group in taunement! So it's in our interest to be in pot A... also the prize money is better higher up you are plus the 4 winners of group A get to play in a finals taunement separate from the euros! but basically nations league is to replace meaningless friendlies with added incentives of extra qualifying route for ruro2020

This thread has me confused. How is at we qualify for a major tournament through the nations league? I thought, at best, you gained an extra shot through complicated play offs?

Need to look at the criteria for nations league but basically its an extra way to qualify for euro 2020 through playoffs like this week with Scotland...... it also gives you better seeding points for world cup and get to play in own finals taunement if you win group A also higher you are more money you earn? And it replaces most friendly games, Last year there was a problem understanding nations league on here ...

Thats the point
Scotland in Pot C had to play a relatively poor Serbia side to qualify , if they were in pot b they would have had a much harder match
Us winning tonight guarantees a play off spot I believe in a tough game.
Ireland theoretically next campaign could be in a group alongside Andorra, Azerbaijan and Liechtenstein which they are very likely to top , then they would have a play off against another lowly ranked team to qualify.
So surely its better for them to drop into pot c ready for the next tournament against easier teams.
Or they can win today, stay in pot b and have a much harder group in which they would be unlikely to qualify from.
To me it doesn't matter what place you are ranked once you get to a tournament . All the games are tough and the goal is to just make it because let's be fair they will never win it anyway.

it doesnt guarantee a play off spot...
europe has 13 world cup spots... 10 groups will be drawn with 10 winners going through..
10 runners up enter play offs.. along with 2 nations lge countries... it will be 2 group winners with the highest ranking that have not already qualified for the world cup or the world cup play offs.... it would mean we would stand a good chance but not guartanteed.,... the 12 play off countries would then be drawn in 3 groups of 4... semis then a final with the 3 group winners qualifying...

When I said play off spot I meant the play offs of the winners of the groups. Reading the table again It only guarantees it if Finland fail to win aswell.
