Cardiff 1 Spurs 0 1977 FA Cup

Fri Nov 13, 2020 8:53 pm

Just seen 16 minutes footage of our triumphant game on YouTube. All I've ever seen before is the goal. It's a brilliant watch. It's got it all. ..
The 70s kit.
The ground
The fans.
Type in cardiff spurs 1976 77

Yeah.. pretty much everything that’s missing now. When going down the ground was fun, and the players weren’t fannys. Got to be honest, footy is shit now.

Loved the bit when Buchanan and their number 8 had a ‘set to’ in midfield and after the kerpuffle the no 8 pointed at Buchanan and you could imagine him saying ‘I’ll see you in a minute pal!’

I thought I remember theSpurs fans being on the LHS enclosure as shown on camera but it seems they were on the right.
Yes first toe to toe I’d seen since I’d been supporting city. Mad.

they were in the grange end side of the enclosure and out and at us sharpish in all fairness...but back then you could pretty much go where you wanted in the ground so youd have odd away fans popping up all over...
the number 8 with them was Perryman he seemed to play for them forever....

Yes I thought so. My mate was in the Grsnge with his dad and he said the Spurs fans were outside calling the city fans out and they didn’t go. Don’t know how much truth there is in that but I distinctly remember him telling me in school on Monday :old:

Remember the end of the game well spurs had taken a good hiding outside the craddock before the game, and nobody thought they would be up for it after the game but they were ,loads of 16 17 year old city fans charged out of the Grange end on final whistle and we're stunned to find spurs waiting for us they chased us back in to the Grange end and what few stewards there were in them days shut the big iron doors not all of us got back in and took a bit of a belting but nobody could get out .remember the big black guy picking a big bin and shoving it on top of a guy from Llanrumney .

we were on our way out and around the enclosure as normal but the first out ran into Spurs who were waiting outside and were driven back .the whole situation made even more chaotic by one of the 2 big blue gates being closed , so you had a hundred or so trying to get back in and a few thousand trying to get out.... . agree with the other poster about their arrival and march down Ninian Park Rd prior to the game

Spurs took a kicking outside the Craddock and all the way to what is now Car Sales site. Remember vividly City fan pulling a bin off a lamppost and battering a Spurs fan senseless with it. Thought Spurs were leaving early to get back to Central but no, first and only club to attack the Grange as we were leaving. Yes gates got closed and they overturned a 3 Wheel invalid car made front page of the Echo. Battles on way back to station and cockney c**t tried to take my scarf outside what was Burger King. Still got the Blue yellow and white striped scarf - cockney wanker.

And to get back to the football itself, wasnt Peter Sayers goal the opening shot for match of the day for a good few years?

Yes it was. Shot him to temporary stardom as he was being hailed as the next Kevin Keegan. Then he went to Brighton.

Yes he did. Had a purple patch at the City that season and had quite a good game against England that season when we beat them at Wembley but dont think he did much after that.

I was at the game - great win for City. But I remember it most for getting punched and kicked by Spurs fans after the game - the only time I have been assaulted in 50 odd years of following football.

Spurs were certainly not the only team to attack the grange end in those days .Villa ,Brum were always on show and sunderland came on early once with only a couple of dozen .all eventually removed.Pompey were not removed 72 /73 .

I remember Sunderland very well. Very big buggers. Just stood there at the back and no one would touch them. But Pompey was different. They came in numbers and got there very early. When we went in we weren't allowed onto the Grange but forced to walk underneath and onto the bob bank with a very large police presence keeping the fans apart.
