Harry Wilson has got the star power to fire Cardiff City up to the top end of the Championship table this season, believes Bluebirds legend Robert Earnshaw.
Wilson signed for City on loan from Liverpool and, barring an injury niggle which sidelined him for a couple of fixtures, has been in excellent form so far.
Earnshaw is certainly someone who knows what it's like to be in white-hot form in a Cardiff shirt, having bagged 59 goals in 120 appearances for the club, catapulting the Bluebirds to promotion in record-breaking fashion with 31 goals in 2002/03.
So Earnshaw, more than most, knows that a team needs firepower if they want to get themselves out of a division and he thinks his compatriot Wilson could be the key cog in the Bluebirds' wheel this term.
ROBERT EARNSHAW:
"I believe he has," when asked if Wilson has that star quality to shoot them up to the top of the table.
"I've watched him a lot. He has got great ability, great skills. With that left foot, he has got a lot of quality to do something out of nothing, whether that's a free-kick or something else."
While it would be quite easy to get carried away with Wilson's impressive start - he has two goals and one assist in his five Championship outings to date - Earnshaw urged patience over a player who is still just 23 and not yet the finished article.
He does, however, believe there is much more to come from the Welshman.
"I think he is a great player but we also must realise he is a young player who is learning and adapting," Earnshaw continues.
"He's spent the last couple of years trying to find himself and how he can play the best way considering his attributes.
"He will keep on progressing and this is a good step for him, a good learning curve, going from Liverpool to Cardiff is a jump in itself but then having to produce on the pitch.
"He is an excellent player, I love watching him and there is more to come from him, for sure."
It's fair to say that Cardiff City have started the season in underwhelming fashion, sitting in 15th position after 11 games.
But Earnshaw, who was speaking while on his FAW Pro Licence coaching course, urged against any kneejerk reactions to the poor start and firmly believes the club has the ammunition within the squad to mount an assault at the top end of the division come the end of the campaign,
"It's a long season, it's only the beginning, the first couple of months," he says.
"There are a lot of challenges also, in that it's a different year in terms of the short turnaround they faced at the beginning.
"You still want to be in a similar position to what they were last year, in the play-offs, but the beginning is not the most important, it's how you end.
"They've tried to make progress, signings, loans and have done very well.
"Obviously the results have to be there, that's for the manager, that's his responsibility to produce the results.
"But they've got a good enough team and I like the players they do have.
"I always wish them good luck because I want them to do well."
