After reaching the play-offs last term, the 2020/21 campaign has not started the way that Cardiff City would have been hoping.

They’re 16th as we head into the November international break, having seemingly fallen foul of the famed hangover that can come with falling narrowly short of promotion.

Neil Harris will be hoping to turn his side’s fortunes around after the break and eyeing helping the Bluebirds back to the top flight.

Ntazana Mayembe

The 17-year-old is one of the most exciting prospects in the academy at the moment. A dynamic player with pace to burn and lightning-quick feet, he’s certainly someone that is likely to get fans on their feet in years to come.

Having already impressed at both U18 and U23 level, it appears the attacker has turned heads beyond just the Welsh capital, with Manchester United understood to have been watching him.

Mayembe was named in the senior squad for a Championship and an FA Cup tie last term, which, though he did not feature, indicates just how highly rated he is at the club.

The teenager is certainly someone that Bluebirds fans will want to keep a keen eye on moving forward.

Tavio d’Almeida

The midfielder is one of a number of players from Steve Morison’s U23s that has been regularly involved in first-team training this term but is yet to get his chance to impress.

Having joined after leaving Auxerre last summer, the 19-year-old has impressed in little over a year with the Bluebirds as his place on the bench in the Carabao Cup and the fact he often wears the captain’s armband for the U23s shows.

D’Almeida is comfortable either on the right or in the centre of midfield and is forward-thinking, which is always likely to endear him to Bluebirds fans.

Take with a large pinch of salt.Tom Sang was supposed to be the next big thing and he can't get into Cheltenhams side. We heard in the past that the likes of Tommy O Sullivan and Sion Spence were hugely promising Dan Martin too but where are they now? The youth set up has been so awful in the last few years that it is difficult to take anything they say seriously. Is there another club in the championship that has a youth set up that has produced less players than us?

Don't know where the others are but Sion Spence is at Palace!

Annis, you may recall earlier this year, I spent an evening in the company of a certain Andy Dibble and his lovely wife. Also there was another couple, one of whom was related to Taz and who was waxing lyrical about some of the things being said of him, so ever since I have taken an active interest in his football development

Everything I have heard about this St Mellons prospect has been positive and I genuinely believe her will break into he first team at some point soon

He has lightning pace, has a good footballing brain and wants to learn

We've talked about it before, but this is one prospect that would have benefited even further from the mentoring of Mr Bellamy

Don’t know them, but quality players at their ages would have been blooded by now..unless something else is stopping it.

Hard to judge youngsters on here. So many people were all loved up over Cameron Coxe. Wtf happened there.

Throw them in on on a sat and see what happens I guess.

Sorry if I'm wrong. Didn't we have to let matondo go to man City cos of our academy status. Can this happen again?

Taz is from Bridgend, I teach his brother who was saying Taz is back with the U18s because they are a much more highly rated group than the U23s and the club want to bring them on together. He’s just been called up for Zambia U21s too apparently. Big future hopefully. Lovely lad too.

I have always believed the ones who make it are the ones who are given a run of games early and have regular, not every game, but regular football from 18 years old.
If you leave it until they are 21 or over it is normally too late

They learn by being thrown in the deep end.

We always seem to leave it to late to blood the players, someone like Bagan now need first team minutes consistently to develop into a Premier league quality player, if he sits on the bench for the next few years he will stagnate and end up being released or shipped off to league 2. Similar to Coxe, who had the potential to grow into our right back role but was never really given the opportunity.

Give them games and they can shine. There are loads of examples currently like Bellingham at Birmingham and Ampadu for Exeter , if those players had not been given the chance at a early age they would be lower league as the talent wouldn't have been allowed to show its potential.

I dont know much about these two but if they are not given a chance in the next 2 years they will not make it

This is spot on.

I’ve coached youth football for many years - not at this level - and it’s true that being given minutes early on in their career is the best way forward. They improve playing with better players and being pushed as long as they are good enough.

With someone like Warnock that was rarely going to happen as he looked short term because that’s what he did.
Someone like Harris who is supposed to be more progressive and looking at developing should be able to do this comfortably.

But they’ve got to be good enough.
Coxe was nowhere near good enough. I think he’s playing for a team in Solihull at the moment which speaks volumes.

What I've seen of Tavio so far has left me well impressed.

if you are not regularly in the match day squad at 20 you are very unlikely to make it Lets face it we are a championship team and if you are good enough you should at least be on the bench at 20 . There will be players that come through after that but they are fairly rare For every Vardy there are thousand who did not come through at an older age .
You do need a manager who is going to give you a go but you must do something that at least puts you in his mind of potentially giving you a chance

I would love to see a couple of our promising youngsters maybe on the bench for a few games. It was an ideal opportunity to give one or two a run out for the last 20 mins against Barnsley when we were 3-0 up. But I don't know why various managers are too scared to play them, or maybe they're not really good enough and we're hearing bullsh1t from the club. Even Premier clubs have thrown on some teenagers and they've come on a treat. I was really annoyed when NH brought on Mark Harris at QPR in 90+5, WTF was the point?
