Potential new Sheffield Wednesday manager Tony Pulis claimed Aden Flint, who is on loan from Cardiff City, was worth £12 million in 2018, Northern Echo report.

The Owls are on the lookout for a new manager after sacking Garry Monk.

The likes of Paul Cook, Nigel Pearson and Plymouth Argyle’s Ryan Lowe have emerged as potential candidates, but former Middlesbrough boss Pulis is the current favourite.

Sky Sports claims the Welshman has held preliminary talks over the position at Hillsborough, and further talks are set to take place in the 48 hours.

Pulis has been out of work after resigning from Middlesbrough in 2019, having previously held jobs at Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League.

The 62-year-old has plenty of pedigree, and current Owls central defender Aiden Flint will know all about him after Pulis signed the defender for £7 million in 2018.

Speaking to reporters in 2018, Pulis claimed Boro had struck a bargain for the 31-year-old.

I’m glad we signed him when we did because you could put another four or five million pounds on him the way the market is going. He was a very good signing for us at the right time which was specifically thought out, so it was a good deal. He’s an inspirational player and he’s a danger at set-plays as well.

Flint only spent one season at Boro before moving to Cardiff City in 2019.

The defender began the campaign as a regular for the Bluebirds, but he lost his place post lockdown and was left out of Cardiff’s playoff semi-final defeat to Fulham.

Flint since joined Wednesday on a season-long loan deal last month. He has made four appearances for the Owls, with his last coming in the 3-0 defeat at Rotherham United.

Pulis could bring the best out of Flint should he get the job. In the meantime, however, the defender faces a spell on the side-lines after picking up a hamstring injury.

Given the wages a £5 million signing likely to be on with a club just out of the Premier league and that is simply not good enough for any side aspiring for top end of Championship and he can be gone for £1 million in my book.

Might as well let him go. If Benkovic who Leicester actually did pay £13 million for can't get in the side there is no point keeping him. He is probably our fifth choice now as Bamba seems to get in ahead of him too. Got to say against Bristol I would rather have seen Flint in the penalty area ahead of Morison Nelson Glatzel and even Keifer Moore.

In defence of benkovic (whom I'm exited to see) he has been getting up to speed, due to lack of game time recently. :old: :bluebird:
