Tom Sang – out on loan to Cheltenham Town

Cardiff had said that Sang was one of their brightest players to come through their ranks in recent years.

Tom Sang needs to become a regular this season at League 2 club Cheltenham Town if he has any chance of making at Cardiff City.

Tom Sang was a player who might have thought he was in with a shout this season, having been heavily involved in squads towards the back end of last year and coming on for a cameo appearance against Northampton Town at the beginning of the campaign.

But it was ultimately decided that Cardiff were interested in bolstering the ranks further and as such opportunities would be few and far between for the 21-year-old attacking midfielder.

After a couple of bright performances in pre-season friendlies against Cheltenham Town, Michael Duff thought he would be a good acquisition.

But it has been a stop-start beginning to his Cheltenham career thus far, having featured in only four of the club's nine League Two matches since his arrival.

Tom Sang has been consigned to the bench for the last two matches against Forest Green and Oldham and will be looking to break back into the fold sooner rather than later, with the ultimate aim to impress Harris with his performances while away from Cardiff City Stadium.

Hope I’m wrong but if he is good as they say I wouldn’t want to be sitting on the subs bench.

Mmmmm. I understand that regular first team action can take its toll but I thought that he was highly rated so I’d have expected him to be their main man tbh Annis.

Andrew, the way the club were bigging him up, he should be Cheltenham’s star player not be a player not even starting a game.
But the club are desperately trying to show they have finally got a player through our ranks that will be a regular Championship player.

Hopefully Joe Bagal is that player after 11yrs :bluebird: :bluebird:

I hope he proves me wrong but he's never stood out in the academy games I've seen him in. Personally I think if you want to establish yourself as a Championship regular you have to shine consistently at academy level

Let's be brutally honest about this. If he is struggling to break into Cheltenham's league two side he will never be good enough at championship level, he is 21 not 18. We would not be the slightest bit interested in signing Cheltenhams best player on the grounds he is not good enough let alone a player who can't make the side on a regulat basis. My guess is he will end up in the notional league or with Hereford or Gloucester.

Youve said it and its very very rare for a player to make it later on now, he's 21 and if good enough would be playing for Cardiff City now :thumbright:

Agreed.

That's why I think it's right that there's been a bit of a cull in the players over 20. As you say, if they were going to make it they would have shown that potential by now.

Much more important for us to concentrate our efforts on the 15-20 year olds as they are still in with a chance of doing something at Championship/Prem level.

He's hardly come through our ranks - we only signed him last year when he was released from Man U

Correct, but the local media and City are saying theyve shall i say helped him through our system and are trying to claim if he makes it, part of our set up, so I am sarcastically saying well he will be the first in the last 11yrs  and even though he's not an Accademy product.

On a more general note, I don't think that with a few notable exceptions South Wales is a hotbed of footballing talent.

Alternately you have a team like Barnsley able to churn out lots of marketable footballers, primarily because South Yorkshire and the surrounding areas are awash with them when compared to South Wales.

So we have a player who is being touted as one of the best ones we have. So we then loan him out to a League 2 club. We all know the condition of the pitches and the playing techniques used. Hoof it up the park if in doubt hoof the player as well.
He's not going to learn anything there other than how to make the tea and how to avoid getting walloped.

Good for character building he wont improve his game though.
