UPDATED: What is important now for this season?

Correct of course. I didnt articulate my thoughts that well.

Promotion would be financially beneficial. £X hundreds of millions is a dream for all teams, but we had that in 18/19 and the structure of the club today and our personnel have not seemingly benefited.

Even though I have spent 47 years supporting City dreaming of us being a top flight team, I enjoyed neither of our forays into the Premiership because I never felt we were well enough equipped or prepared on or off the pitch.

My experience of promotion to the top flight is like that of a short term holiday that you pay for now and repent at your leisure.

For me though, we will be nowhere near promotion this year. I think we should aim to get the correct management team in place for first team through to all ages in the first instance, survive in the Championship this year, Blood a few youngsters along the way, and go again next year.

There have been many disappointments so far this season on a good few fronts; Results, selling players, lack of numbers, the Academy, The Management team. And yet the season started with so much promise after a blinding end to the last campaign.

There are those who will argue (with justification) that the season is still young, and all options including promotion remain on the table. My opinion is that the club is currently in a depressed state, and we are blindly walking through the season more in hope than expectation.

I wont do a poll.... caused too much aggro last time  , but what is most important this season? I even think a promotion, if it were a possibility, would be bad for the club right now, because two promotions previous, we didn't invest in the structure of the club as we should have, and I'm not sure a third stint would bring a different outcome.

So, is it mere survival in the league for this year and start again fresh next, emphasis on bringing through youth, Cup runs, pushing for play offs, putting a new management team in place?

Each has certain merits, but lets be realistic here.

How can a promotion be bad? £120m cannot be bad or dismissed all clubs and players play for promotion without it there is no incentive to try and win games like saying relegation will be good as we can regroup ! trouble is promotion may never come again ? This season should give you a clue that every season is different no garauntee wont be relegated next season is there? Things have been disappointing so far but there are signs things are getting better last 3 games just need consistency now.... as for change of management do you have confidence that we will pick the right person I certainly don't. :old:

What a ridiculous statement

Promotion should be the aim every season. Otherwise what's the point!? Unless you're a 'smaller' club where survival is the aim, which we arnt, then I would not be happy playing for a mid table finish. Promotion should be the aim purely based on the revenue it creates. You say to be realistic then say you want to write the season off after 11 games.

This why I don't think Tan is the guy to take us further.

As for this season I just think we will establish ourselves in a position that reflects our owners ability. That is mid table of the Championship while under Tan.

I would argue to say that the promotion and parachute money has gone mainly against:

1. Keeping the club running (wages, stadium fees etc.)
2. Transfers (ok not a great point over all espcially from the promotion season onwards)
3. Paying off our huge debts (They are still heading in the right direction)

So off the pitch it was definitely a good thing. However we are in no better position now as to when Warnock took over. Got us promoted he did, prepare us for the future he did not. The club is short sighted and has been since forever.

Mid table? Won’t be many teams above us as far as quality of owner.

Respect your opinion, and promotion is the aim every season for every club at the beginning of the year. Agreed, but could it be considered a ridiculous statement to say that we are still aiming for promotion given our start, style, effort, results?

You mention the importance of the revenue promotion creates, but whats more important is how that revenue is used.

I too believe it is realistic that, if nothing changes personnel wise, that the season can be written off. There are other teams who have already shown are far better playing wise, squad size wise, playing style wise who currently have a more than a chance of finishing higher than us. We are already a quarter of the way through the season.

Ok 25% of the season has gone, so there's still 75% to play? We are 6 points off 6th. We were 7 points behind in January when warnock left and we managed to make the playoffs. Whilst it does seem unlikely at the moment its a ridiculous statement to say there's nothing to play for this early into the season.

Obviously spending the promotion money wisely is important, something we've failed to do twice, but I'd rather get there and waste it than be happy just to survive in the championship. Obviously I'd prefer the club invested the money but that seems beyond the people running the club.

Results and performances havnt been great but we arnt incapable of improving that. We've still got Tutu to come back into the team. Still havnt seen benkovic at the back and we are definitely missing Tomlin.
