SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY MANAGER LATEST

Tue Nov 10, 2020 2:23 pm

Several News Feeds now claiming Wednesday in talks with a certain Mr Tony Pulis...

Tony Pulis is the frontrunner for Sheffield Wednesday job after Garry Monk is sacked

Tony Pulis is the frontrunner to succeed Garry Monk at Sheffield Wednesday, but the Championship club faces a battle to convince him to return to the dug-out.

Pulis, 62, has not worked since leaving Middlesbrough in May 2019 and has already been discussed extensively by the Hillsborough hierarchy.

Whether he can be tempted to take over at the Championship, possibly until the end of the season, remains to be seen, but it is his job should he want it.

Seems the Sheffield Wednesday hierarchy want Tony Pulis but the question is does he want them...?

Another manager I don't see as needing to take a job at any cost, so it remains to be seen

Good to see that other clubs are still considering him though and (sort of) vindicates many Bluebird supporters views that he could be a good fit for Cardiff City, if he is interested and, of course, if the City hierarchy are looking for a genuinely top manager to replace the under siege Neil Harris

Pulis is an interesting one.

He did very well at Stoke and Palace - also did well for a little while at West Brom.

But he didn't really succeed at Middlesbrough when he dropped back down to this level.

Would also mean a complete change of style. Garry Monk had them playing possession based football, and we all know what Pulis' style of football is.

I don't think Eddie Howe would take the job, because I think he feels he can get a Premier League job when one of the clubs towards the bottom of that league let their manager go later in the season.

But I'm surprised that it appears Pulis is Wednesday's number one choice. I would expect Paul Cook or Nigel Pearson to be higher up the pecking order. Especially as Pulis doesn't come cheap, compared to someone like Cook.
