A forum for all things Cardiff City

After some lacklustre performances and chasing too many games of late, Cardiff City stepped up tonight to give recently resurgent Barnsley a comfortable beating
Goals from Junior Hoilett, a penalty from Joe Ralls and a superb strike from Harry ap Wilson were the highlights of a game City could/should have won by more and I'm not sure Barnsley had a proper shot on target?
Excellent performances throughout (Hoilett over Moore for me) and a positive set up gives both team and manager a bit of respite ahead of a tough game against the City of Bristol (
KO 6pm) on Friday
For once this season to date, Bluebird supporters can be buoyant and enjoy a rare game in which we were comfortable for the majority of the game...
More of these, please!
FINAL SCORE: CARDIFF CITY 3 - 0 BARNSLEY

Agree,at least at home.

Can’t do a lot more than beat your opposition by 3 goals to nil but I just thought we were professional and put in a decent performance rather than being excellent tonight against a poor and insipid team.
* perhaps I’m being a bit miserable though mate!
I think the KO is 6pm on Friday Chris.

Thought it was an excellent performance - very high energy probably took its toll on the 2nd half, but we still created chances.
Ralls playing back in centre midfield made us look much more balanced - he was good with the ball but did a hell of a lot of work on breaking up play. That gave Pack the chance to play well with the ball and get some decent passes around the pitch.
Junior had his best game in ages - everywhere and some quality play. Moore and Glatzel good up front - Some of their runs too similar, but they can complement each other with a few more games together.
Our speed of play was so much better tonight - but more direct, not in a long ball way but getting it forward quicker - like the early Warnock days.
Fair play to Harris - he got a response from the players tonight, but he also changed the set up and got both a result and a performance.

Sums up tonight’s performance perfectly

Well said Chris.
Great result and performance now.
Need to push on now, starting from Friday, to make it count.

No, you're spot on in reality, Paul
I think we are just so pleased to see a 'safe' game, it's gone to our heads!
Changed the KO off time to 6pm, mate. Thanks

Not to be the cynic but we were expected to beat Barnsley.
How we played tonight was phenomenal. If we can do that Friday even if we draw I’d be happy. The ball was on the floor. There were passing and clear techniques going on.
Bring on The Robins

Lot better mixing long balls with some good inter linking play.... but still sloppy play when in good positions and players taking to long to pass! But it's a start hopefully of better things to come.

We always expect to beat everyone!
Barnsley game into the game in great form and scoring goals - so as much as we criticise them for losing to teams in poor form, we have to give credit when they comfortably beat in form teams.
Plenty to work on, but hopefully a pointer to how we should set up

Phenomenal is a big word mate,we played well, but we can certainly get better, great start tonight, now for the wurzels! Hope we can set up the same, and go for them from the off
We need to go up a gear for their visit, don't forget barnsley had a depleted line up,and we're missing woodrow, who we were interested in signing.

Exactly mate.
You know what it’s like on here with many - win and we’ve played like Brazil and we’re going to climb up and get automatic promotion and lose and it’s sack everybody because they’re all shite!
You’re right though, it’s nice to kick back after a 3-0 win. Will be interesting to see how the next 3 or 4 games go because they’re all winnable. Interesting to see if we can put in a ‘phenomenal’

performance against Bristol and better teams coming up

Opinion: Welcome three pts. Played OK in patches. Barnsley were worse than poor.
Shout out to Glatzel, 4 efforts, 3 on target, made keeper make 2 decent saves. Hoilett MOM.
Ill wait til Bristol City before getting excited.

The result was great lets make no doubt about this. The performance was also promising but that was always going to be the case following the messages coming out of the camp since the QPR debacle.
The true test is Friday and the games to come before any of us can say we have turned a corner.
I felt it was Moore's best game for us despite not scoring.
I believe our failing this season will ultimately be the strikers. There is no blend or pace amongst our current options to lead the line. This means we can rarely play a 'killer' ball with the hope of a striker running in behind and almost all of our play is predictable. I think Moore is too wasteful and not as good in the air as his height would suggest. Glatzel too is a poor header of the football meaning for what we sacrifice in having two tall and slow forwards is not mitigated.
We won comfortably - but this was tinged by it being a game we would have expected to win in any circumstance.

I liked last night Bennett getting more crosses in. With 2 large forwards we need to do this more and concentrate on getting better accuracy.
Wed Nov 04, 2020 11:22 am
I think we just played at our pace, this has been my criticism all along. Our attempt at possession based football is too laboured because we do not have players who have a good enough first touch and technique to play that sort of game. Yes they can control the ball and pass, but not well enough at that slower pace to hurt the opposition.
We increased the pace and the old boys all showed up. Bennett, Ralls, Holliet

Reading some of the comments on here today and it shows some people are never happy. Win a game comfortable 3-0, which doesnt happen very often for us, and people will still have a moan about something.
I'm sure Watford fully expected to beat Wycombe last week but they never. The championship is the most competitive league in the world. Barnsley were on good form and we were on a poor run. You cant just turn up and expect to win games as There are no certain 3 points in this league - against anyone. Last night was a good performance and result after very depressing few games. Just try to enjoy the result like.

Im no old school supporter. But I Started supporting city around the 2005 mark so I’ve see a few ups and downs - just missing the playoffs, loosing play off final, was at Wembley for the defeat to Liverpool.
I probably should be more up beat though!! I’m optimistic about Glatzels future. If he had more confidence and a bit more strength we’d have a decent goal scorer on our hands.
I’m happy with what we did with the ball. 3 goals, for us is a big thing not to mention the clean sheet.
Il be more optimistic with my future posts

We have had 1 90 minute performance in 10 games.
Sorry if people want to reserve their excitement - we have the wurzels next and we will need to be far more clinical and retain possession a lot better than last night.
It is VITAL that we follow up last night with a win against a more convincing opposition. Then the doubters will feel slightly more at ease with the current situation i'm sure.

Not saying anyone should get carried away after 1 result. Just don't see why people, after a good performance, would put the result down to poor opposition rather than give the team any sort of credit. Barnsley beat qpr 3-0 (which we failed to do) and Watford in their last two games without conceding. They are hardly the whipping boys of the division. People are quick enough to slag the team and Harris off when things don't go well but arnt so quick when the team plays well.
