"Everyone living or working in Liverpool will be offered regular covid-19 tests in the first whole city programme in the country - with rapid turnaround tests available across the city from Friday. Two thousand military personnel will arrive in the city later this week to roll-out a huge programme of hundreds of thousands of tests as Liverpool becomes the centre of the government's new strategy to fight the virus."
Takes about 10 seconds to type "Liverpool" and "Military" into Google. There's been enough nonsense on this board recently without needing to add some more, very easily disproved, rumours.

Yep, that's as current as can be, so it seems the troops are going in...

They are treating it like a SARS pandemic rather than a FLU pandemic and it’s why they are mostly open.
Our only issue is once we get it under control we will all f**k off on holiday again and bring it back. But by then hopefully there will be similar airport testing available.

its a virus that is country wide/ world wide... so.. best case scenario you get this down to next to nothing in one City... then what ? keep the inhabitants of that city locked down and stop people outside the city boundary entering ? how long for ...

Thats exactly what you do and should have been down from the start .
All Holidays and foreign travel stopped. Other countries economies are not our problem.
Any area or town should be properly locked down with nobody in or out until clear
Universities should be made to do online classes only
Small shops should be allowed to trade from the front door if possible with social distancing outside, nobody inside .
Pubs and restaurants could stay open with restricted hours and numbers

Good question!! How long exactly? And the fact with these tests not being able to pick up the virus,if person is in early stage of infection, leaving some getting a negative reult, when they are in fact positive! And all the false positive results, already being a problem.could last years,or until a safe, reliable jab is found??

I would say shops are safer than pubs? - Just keep it to one or two people at a time and no chatting bollocks, straight in and out.
People don't go to the shop to get pissed, not inside the shop anyway.
I don't really want pubs and restaurants closed, but I fear they are a big problem especially for the young that want a good time and don't really care if they get it. I'm not knocking them, we were all young once and no the score, if you leave them open they will use them, get pissed and mix!

The Army belongs to the crown and because we have a monarchy no government can use her majesty’s forces against its own people and the squaddies would not do that anyway.
This is why a European Army is so so dangerous as it won’t belong to the monarchy. And any European army it would use foreign boots on the ground as they would have no moral problems dealing with the British public or vice versa.
So no I can’t see this happening.

In fairness, this thread has now gone too far and to be fair to the OP, I know as a fact that he wasn't doing anything other than informing us of what he had become aware. Its not his style to be malicious and/or to spread misinformation and I do know that he was simply taken aback when he heard that troops were to be deployed on the streets and in particular the word 'mandatory testing', which were used on one report but were later confirmed in true media style as 'short of the truth'
You and your family stay safe, Nukes; and stay away from that Wickes Store..!![]()

From what I understand it's the time in relatively close proximity to people in closed unventilated spaces that is the biggest cause of the spreading. So if you go to a pub and sit chatting to people for three hours, there is a greater chance of transmission than popping into a shop to buy something quickly.
