2000 troops!

Tue Nov 03, 2020 12:29 am

Just heard 2000 military personnel have been deployed to Liverpool, to implement mandatory testing for every person there, wether you want to be tested or not,and will be running at a place near you soon!

I'm not a fan of being forced into anything, that's my choice not anyone else's. What's next, the mandatory injection???
What are your feelings on this? Please for once, just opinions,no slating of a poster for their view, just post what you feel,no need for putting people in boxes,or name calling either, cheers in advance :old: :bluebird:

"Everyone living or working in Liverpool will be offered regular covid-19 tests in the first whole city programme in the country - with rapid turnaround tests available across the city from Friday. Two thousand military personnel will arrive in the city later this week to roll-out a huge programme of hundreds of thousands of tests as Liverpool becomes the centre of the government's new strategy to fight the virus."

Takes about 10 seconds to type "Liverpool" and "Military" into Google. There's been enough nonsense on this board recently without needing to add some more, very easily disproved, rumours.

Yep, that's as current as can be, so it seems the troops are going in...

The troops may be going in but that's not the part I was trying to highlight, the Army get called in to help in quite a lot of situations that require large amounts of manpower. Flooding, evacuations, heavy snow, etc.
It's the testing being mandatory I was disputing as it's simply not true. It's not mandatory to take a Covid test in Liverpool and the Army are not being used to force any unwilling civilians to take the test.

Army are simply doing the logistics! Idea behind testing everyone is to make infected people stay at home which is good idea as people dont seem capable of doing the right thing and stay at home and isolate when got symptoms? Should Been done in caerphilly maybe only way
To stop covid in its tracks

Mandatory testing involving the military paints a bleak picture. Liverpools covid levels though are horrific.

A local Labour MP said on the radio this morning that it is definitely not mandatory.

This is what is being done in Asia and it’s working to stop the virus.

They are treating it like a SARS pandemic rather than a FLU pandemic and it’s why they are mostly open.

Our only issue is once we get it under control we will all f**k off on holiday again and bring it back. But by then hopefully there will be similar airport testing available.

Thats exactly what you do and should have been down from the start .

All Holidays and foreign travel stopped. Other countries economies are not our problem.

Any area or town should be properly locked down with nobody in or out until clear

Universities should be made to do online classes only

Small shops should be allowed to trade from the front door if possible with social distancing outside, nobody inside .

Pubs and restaurants could stay open with restricted hours and numbers

Good question!! How long exactly? And the fact with these tests not being able to pick up the virus,if person is in early stage of infection, leaving some getting a negative reult, when they are in fact positive! And all the false positive results, already being a problem.could last years,or until a safe, reliable jab is found??

indeed, lots of questions re testing and not just here...but even if they are bang accurate.. the price has already been to great...how can you justify prioritising a covid patient over a cancer patient who will die.. justify not seeing elderely relatives who live only a few miles away so they will live a few months longer but now do not see their loved ones....

Ban holidays until the vaccine, then issue vaccination passports for people who want to come in our out of the Country.

I love a holiday, but it's just not worth the risk, 80% of the current very virulent strain came from Spain, all Countries should have bans on to stop the global transmissions.

As it's not mandatory this has to be a really good step, let's see what voluntary mass testing can do, hopefully, its a better alternative to forced lockdowns!

I would say shops are safer than pubs? - Just keep it to one or two people at a time and no chatting bollocks, straight in and out.

People don't go to the shop to get pissed, not inside the shop anyway.

I don't really want pubs and restaurants closed, but I fear they are a big problem especially for the young that want a good time and don't really care if they get it. I'm not knocking them, we were all young once and no the score, if you leave them open they will use them, get pissed and mix!

No way could they do something like this yet !! Once the army is on the streets enforcing laws or mainly new laws then that is marshal law. And besides the only way the army could make testing mandatory is to frog March people out of there homes at gun point.
The Army belongs to the crown and because we have a monarchy no government can use her majesty’s forces against its own people and the squaddies would not do that anyway.
This is why a European Army is so so dangerous as it won’t belong to the monarchy. And any European army it would use foreign boots on the ground as they would have no moral problems dealing with the British public or vice versa.
So no I can’t see this happening.

From what I understand it's the time in relatively close proximity to people in closed unventilated spaces that is the biggest cause of the spreading. So if you go to a pub and sit chatting to people for three hours, there is a greater chance of transmission than popping into a shop to buy something quickly.

As long as the pubs are cleaning constantly and taking all the correct precautions then they should be able to stay open with reduced capacity.
What we need to do is work out what the super spreaders are and stop them whilst still keeping the economy going.

In my eyes that is foreign Holidays and universities

I really don't believe the main transmission areas are the shops pubs and restaurants. In fact ive never seen so many pubs so clean and well run.

Universities , nightclubs , large events and foreign travel are the main problem .
