Neil Harris:

"I probably underestimated the disappointment at losing to Fulham in the play-offs,the short turnaround has not helped," he said ahead of the Barnsley clash.

"Great group of lads here, I love working with them every day. You won’t find many people who have a bad word to say about many of my players, but it’s just that mentality going on to the pitch."

'The players were not competing, not coming out on top in the basics of football. That’s the least I expect from my players.

"That’s why I was scathing after the game.

"I’ve spoken to the players, reviewed the game and spent a lot of time doing video analysis and putting a few things that were wrong, right.

"But you can only put things right on the pitch and that will start against Barnsley."

MY VIEW:

Come on Harris, I stick up for you, many times saying your not fully backed, but to bring up a match from the 30th July, over 3 months ago and you've cleared players out and fresh players in etc etc, VERY VERY POOR EXCUSES WHY WE ARE DOING SO BADLY.

To be fair Captain Sean Morrison did not blame it, he owned up to why they've not done well :thumbright: :bluebird:

If you listen to the whole interview he doesn’t blame the performances on that at all. He states he underestimated the impact it would have. Not once does he blame it on that.

Neil Harris believes there are a number of factors behind Cardiff City's poor start to the season, including the players' mentality and the hangover suffered from losing to Fulham in the play-off semi-final last term.

The Bluebirds have endured a sub-par start to the 2020/21 campaign, winning only two of their opening nine games and having yet to register a victory at home, turning out two particularly mediocre performances in their last two matches.

City lie 17th in the table and while it is still very early days, a string of bad performances have led to mounting anger and frustration from supporters.

And while Harris could not put his finger specifically on why his side are just not clicking, he believes the Fulham defeat has played more of a part than he initially realised.

"I probably underestimated the disappointment at losing to Fulham, the short turnaround.," he said ahead of the Barnsley clash.

"The mix of players going and coming in. Settling the group as quickly as possible in the short turnaround.

Harris, who succeeded Neil Warnock as Cardiff boss in November 2019, also says his side are suffering the effects of a hangover from last season's play-off defeat to Fulham.

Scott Parker's team went on to be promoted to the Premier League and Harris says his players have lost some momentum because of that semi-final defeat.

"Expectation levels grew, rightly so, with what we achieved last season, but this season we have not been consistent enough," he added.

"I probably underestimated the disappointment of losing last year of losing to Fulham, with the short turnaround.

"There is also the amount of players going and coming in and trying to settle the group with a quick turnaround.

"But ultimately it is down to me to pick the right team and tactics to win games."

Harris, who said he has spoken with Cardiff's owners, added: "We all want to win football matches and no one is more disappointed than me when we don't win.

"The board have been supportive with me since I got here and continue to be supportive.

"The owner knows I am a winner and a fighter and I want to do that, and have shown in my time here if we have a bad spell we come out the other side and start winning games again."

After the heartbreaking loss in the Play-off semi-final against Fulham, Harris believes that has had a massive effect on players and could be the reason for their poor start of the season.

He added: “We’ve probably underestimated the disappointment of last year losing to Fulham probably in the short turnaround.

“The mix of players going and coming in and settling in the group in the short turnaround. I can’t say exactly why we’ve gone behind in so many games, it’s certainly a mentality one.”

City have yet to win a game at home this season from their opening four games – a run not seen since 1994-95 where they were winless in their opening five games.

It haven't affected the Jack's. Poor excuse for a poor side and manager atm. A must win tomorrow not only for Harris but us fans. And him and the players are lucky there's no fans in the ground there would be a fcuking riot.

With all due respect, you're just posting the same quote copy and pasted by other journalist who is covering it. I don't think the previous gentleman was saying he didn't say it, you don't need to select a couple of sentences out of the whole 18 minutes I just watched and listened fully to argue that he said it. He did indeed say he misjudged the dissapointment of Fulham, but here's the context;

"I can't explain to you why we're falling behind in so many games, it's definetely a mentality one"

"We had that concentration from December to March, and from the restart to the playoffs"

"I don't need anybody reminding me what my duties are at this club

"The owner knows I'm a winner and a fighter and hopefully I've shown that even if we have a little bad spell we come out the other side"

He then goes on to discuss many things that have affected the season so far from injuries, to lack of depth at Right back, Left back injuries etc.

His comment on "maybe I misjudged the disappointment that losing the playoffs had on the players" when briefly talking about the players mentality. It wasn't a big statement, it wasn't an excuse, it wasn't a hill he wants to die on, it was a brainstorm of trying to find solutions to why the players aren't performing to the standard he beleived they set last season. At the end of the day we haven't performed anywhere near the levels we did last season under Harris so his comment isn't even that wrong. It can't be a coincidence that we're playing poorly this season after doing so well last season, with in my opinion a BETTER squad. I think Harris needs to make bold decisions now, but I don't understand why people want him to go. People have such short memories, he's been great for us. This is a bad spell, that's all it is, nobody truly believed this will continue for long especially with Tomlin / Wilson to come in. If he doesn't sort it out then the time will start to run out for him, but this sort of mud throwing at him for a comment that isn't even the genuine truth (He doesn't BLAME the disappointment of the playoffs AT ALL, It's purely a look into a number of suggestions of what could be affecting the players mentality as they have typically performed for Harris all last season.

And your point ?

Three different journalists wrote it BBC, Media Wales and Terry Phillips , the poster made out it was not said, but I even heard it live myself.

And yes I took that piece out like I do with every topic, did not need to search for it, it was the main part of their write up, because no one can believe that Harris is still yapping on about it.

Swansea got over it , why can’t Harris?

My point is I can’t believe Harris even brought up that from from months ago .
