CARDIFF CITY v BARNSLEY

Match to be played in front of no supporters, for information on how to watch the match on TV or to stream it - see below

Cardiff City XI (4-4-2): Smithies; Bacuna, Morrison, Nelson, Bennett; Wilson, Pack, Ralls, Hoilett; Moore, Glatzel.

Subs: Phillips, Bamba, Bagan, Vaulks, Ojo, Whyte, Murphy.

What's the team news :bluebird: :bluebird:

Both Robert Glatzel and Harry Wilson could come back into the fray for Cardiff City in a double fitness boost.

Welshman Wilson missed last weekend owing to a hip impingement issue, while Robert Glatzel was out with sickness and diarrhoea. However, both have trained and could feature against the Tykes.

Greg Cunningham and Isaac Vassell are still unavailable, as is Jordi Osei-Tutu.

For the visitors there are a number of injury problems to key players, with Callum Brittain, Cauley Woodrow, Jordan Williams and Romal Palmer all out of commission.

Are we to expect a much-changed team tomorrow after that performance?

NEIL HARRIS:

You’ll probably see changes because of time constraints because of people with knocks and illnesses. People who can’t play three games in six days, just the nature of it.

02/10/20

NEIL HARRIS:

Neil Harris is asked how important it will be to have Harry Wilson available against Barnsley

If he is available! It’ll be a big bonus for us. You want your quality available, he brought a real buzz and real quality which was probably missing.

When you haven’t got Lee Tomlin, Harry Wilson and Robert Glatzel then you are going to struggle for creativity.

Injuries / Fitness :bluebird: :bluebird:

Fitness-wise, a few bumps and bruises from a physical encounter on Saturday. We’re hoping to have a couple back in.

Bobby Glatzel has trained today. He had a bit of sickness and diarrhoea on the weekend.

Harry Wilson we are hoping to get back in.
Injury Update: :bluebird:

Harry Wilson looks likely to miss this one.

Greg Cunningham out till December
Osei-Tutu out till December
Isaac Vassell out till January

BARNSLEY MANAGER: "WE CAN EXPLOIT CARDIFF'S WEAKNESS"

Barnsley manager Valerien Ismael on Kieffer Moore:

"Their way to play is around him, with a lot of crosses and second balls. We have to concentrate and we know how to defend against him. We showed the players some clips. We have to be very good in the box but we are ready."

Barnsley's Patrick Schmidt: "Second balls will be very important for us tomorrow.

"Cardiff are very direct and play a lot of long balls. We know it will be a big challenge, a big fight in Wales for us."

"But we have a plan, we believe we can exploit Cardiff's weaknesses, and we will go into the game hoping to extend our good run of form.

Match facts ahead of tomorrow

Cardiff have lost just one of their last 12 league games against Barnsley (W8 D3), winning each of their last four matches.

There have been 29 goals in the last six league games between these two sides hosted by Cardiff, the home side netting 16 goals and Barnsley scoring 13.

Cardiff haven’t begun a league season without a victory in their opening five home games since 1994-95 in the third tier (P4 D2 L2 this season).

Barnsley will be aiming to avoid starting consecutive Championship seasons without a victory in their opening five away games (failed to win any of their first 10 on the road in 2019-20 and have drawn two and lost two of their four games on the road this campaign).

Cardiff manager Neil Harris has won each of his last three league encounters with Barnsley, having lost each of the three beforehand.

Neil Harris is asked what he expects from Barnsley

Yeah, a young side. Athleticism and legs. They press very high and hard.

I went up to Barnsley to watch them against QPR, game changed on a red card. It’ll be a tough challenge, I enjoy watching them play.

It’s about how my players respond.

I want to see the second-half performance against QPR, not the first.

NEIL HARRIS:

Neil Harris gives an update on Filip Benkovic

Yeah, good. He has trained today, topped up his minutes. It’s just a question of when he comes into the group. Whether I feel I need that extra defensive cover. Is he going to get a chance to play? Those are the questions I have to answer.

I need to make sure I’ve got experience, covering options in different positions. But Benko is now fit and available if I want to select him.

Team News: Harry Wilson and Robert Glatzel hoping to come back for Cardiff in midweek

Cardiff could welcome back Harry Wilson and Robert Glatzel for the visit of Barnsley.

Liverpool loanee Wilson missed Saturday's 3-2 defeat by QPR with a hip problem and fellow striker Glatzel was unwell.

Lee Tomlin got 30 minutes under his belt as a substitute following a groin injury and should be involved again.

Full-back Greg Cunningham is out with a hamstring injury.

Barnsley will be without Callum Brittain, who limped off against Watford on Saturday.

The full-back could be fit for the weekend but will not be involved in south Wales.

Jordan Williams, Romal Palmer and Cauley Woodrow are also on the treatment table.

But Victor Adeboyejo is back training and could be added to the squad.

Another manager coming out with platitudes. the proof of the pudding is in the eating and whichever side (assuming it's not another draw) comes out on top tonight will have carried out their 'plan' better than the other

Action not rhetoric is key on the pitch...! :ayatollah:

He’s got to change the team.
Bacuna has to come into central midfield.
Who plays right back? Nelson or Bennett unless Harris has a plan we don’t know about!
Vaulks to be dropped.
Wilson to start.
Tomlin? We have another game in 3 days so keep him on bench.
Murphy or Hoilett presuming Ojo starts.
Whatever team he picks it’ll do well to beat a much improved Tykes outfit who were unlucky to lose here last season but incredibly lucky to not get relegated.

Pundit makes Cardiff City v Cardiff City scoreline prediction -

Barnsley are back in Championship action this evening, when they take on Neil Harris' Cardiff City in the Welsh capital.

In his midweek predictions for Sky Sports, pundit David Prutton included a scoreline tip for the eagerly anticipated clash between the Tykes and the Bluebirds, and backed a 2-2 draw between the two well-matched teams.

Justifying his selection, the former Leeds United man explained: "The Bluebirds ended a run of three successive 1-1 draws with that last-gasp defeat against QPR and boss Neil Harris admitted that he'd 'never been so angry after a game'.

"His side need to start converting those draws into wins if they want to challenge at the top of the division."

He continued: "What a start it's been for new Barnsley boss Valerien Ismael! Things were starting to move in the right direction prior to the Frenchman's arrival, but they've taken seven points from three games since his arrival and look impressive, particularly with Saturday's win over Watford, but Barnsley now need to win an away game.

The last time the two sides met, back in March, Barnsley were beaten 2-0 at Oakwell, with goals from Will Vaulks and Callum Paterson securing three points for the visitors.

As things stand, the Tykes currently sit 15th in the table with ten points, while Cardiff are down in 17th with the same number of points, but an inferior goal difference.

Early days yet but Cardiff are 12pts from top place, 5pts from play -offs , but only 4pts from the bottom 3.

Tonight we need to start winning and getting those 3pts before the gaps get wider at the top end but closer at the bottom end :bluebird:

Tomlin.
If either are not fit then play Ojo or Murphy as the no 10 - anyone there but Ralls

Plus as I posted above Woodrow is not playing for them.

I agree, ojo should have played there against derby and qpr. Harris said he can play their when we signed him so no idea why we've setup so negatively the last 2 games. Cost us points.
