What Neil Harris wants to see from his Cardiff City team ahead of Derby County clash

The Rams take on the Bluebirds in the Championship at Pride Park Stadium on Wednesday

Neil Harris wants his Cardiff City side to become "streetwise".

Cardiff were held to a 1-1 draw by Middlesbrough yesterday and they have failed to win in four home league games this season, drawing two and losing two.

But they are unbeaten in three on the road and visit Pride Park Stadium on Wednesday to face Derby County.

Harris is not happy with his team's defending at set pieces after conceding against Middlesbrough.

"The two disappointments are that we didn't score more goals with the chances we created and the positions we got ourselves in and secondly, to concede such a poor goal from a set piece again," Harris is quoted by WalesOnline.

"That's three times we've conceded from set plays and four games in a row here we have first at home. That's not acceptable in my changing room. I'm majorly disappointed.

"Work on the training pitch is obvious. Picking the right team, that's my prerogative, my decisions. Making sure we are a little more streetwise.

"First-goal mentality, we've got it away from home, we've had it for 12 months away from home, majority of the time we have had it at home as well. But all of a sudden, we've got key moments going against us at home.

Need to be more clinical in front of goal, that's the issue. And I think Moore may see Glatzel play more unless he starts putting some of his chances away.

Might be harsh on Nelson but I'd be getting benkovic in as soon as possible. Odd signing so far as he's only made the bench. Unless he was injured over the weekend but bamba was in the squad and he wasn't as well. Surely he's an improvement on bamba? Why sign him otherwise. Can't imagine Leicester loaned him to us to sit on the bench either

I think now is a good excuse to put Benkovic in the team after a supposedly poor defensive performance.

I don’t think he was fit when he arrived as I’m pretty sure he hasn’t played this season so obviously he needed to get up to speed.

Yea disrupting a CB pairing is always a risk, particularly if the player isn't match fit. But this guy is highly rated and Harris will have to make the decision at some point. I just hope its pretty soon as we aren't scoring many and are conceding soft goals.

I agree, I've been listening to talksport, they think (and I agree) some players are switching off a little without the pressure from the crowd to keep them on their toes, that's why there have been so many goals and strange results.

Hopefully, we will settle down, on paper, we have a fairly strong squad and very good first team this season.

Harris doesn't need an excuse to drop a player. He's the manager and picks what he thinks is the best team available. I think he's shown he hasn't had an issue dropping regulars. We havnt been terrible at the back but the goals we've conceded have been pretty sloppy. Id have no issue if Harris played Benko instead of morrison or Nelson. But as morrison is our captain and has played the majority of his career at this level, the likely choice is that Nelson is dropped. That said, I think scoring goals is our main issue so far this season.

sounds like an excuse to me... we have looked pretty solid so far, could do with more touches in the opposition box, like twice as many... is more the issue...
having said that id accept any sort of win at Derby..

Doesn't really matter. If Harris sees Benkovic as a better player than Nelson, he'll play when he's ready. Some of the goals we have conceded have been very soft and have cost us points. Both Nelson and morrison are also very limited with the ball at their feet and this guy is meant to be a decent ball playing defender which should help us play it out better
