‘ Callum Paterson does it again ‘

Sun Oct 25, 2020 1:10 pm

Callum Paterson scores two weeks running and the Sheff Wednesday fans have been loving Paterson’s celebrations.

I said at the time, I could not believe how we sold him so cheap, never mind the goals , it’s his attitude and battling displays which won me over.

They will prob be relegated or down near the bottom all season long as they had a minus 12pt start so Paterson’s is playing in a a struggling team and doing well :thumbright: :thumbright:

I think that we were right to get rid of him and bring in ojo and Wilson in ,not sure what position Patterson is tbh

Patterson was 100-% for us and could never be faulted for effort levels.

But we do have better in the positions he was playing.

Ironically we need another right back now so he perhaps could have moved back there!!

Patterson has only scored once this week against Brentford although he did win Wednesday a penalty last weekend at Birmingham. Think the problem was had he stayed he would have been 3rd choice striker behind Glatzal and Moore.Always gave us 100% when he played but I think his move was best for both parties. With the help of Flint and ex Cardiff boy Kareem Harris Sheffield Wednesday should escape relegation and finish in the bottom half of the table.

There's no money around outside of the premier league. Because of coronavirus the market is very depressed. It seems most teams in our league went for loans and free transfers as that is all they could afford. We didn't get what Paterson or Etheridge was worth but got two big salaries off the wage bill, for players who would hardly feature this season.

I don't get this about prices for players,it's not rocket science, football is going through its toughest time in my living memory, just like any other"business" we either break the bank hoping for promotion,or we cut our cloth accordingly, and live to fight another day, for me it's a no brainer, the latter.

Nobody in this division has spent big to bring new players in,which goes to show how perilously close to being in the shit most clubs must be in,if we lose roughly 1/2 million for each home game without fans attending, that's a 23m hole to be filled somehow.do I think he was sold a bit too cheap? Yes,but can understand he would be a squad player at best this year, and would have cost us about a mill on wages,so he had to go. :old: :bluebird:

Spot on.

It’s market values.
For example if he’d come off a great season say in the prem he could have gone for a couple of million.
If he’s a squad player in the middle of this covid era half a mill is good value as nobody was offering more.
Simple really.

That would actually be a £11.5m hole i.e. 23/2 ;)

Gate receipts and match day income is not as much as we might think. The accounts show that in 2017 (when we were in the Championship) match day income was only £3,529,000 and in 2018 (the promotion season) it was £4,969,000.

That said take £3/5m out of a mid sized business and it will definitely make a huge impact.

As for Paterson he was sold for his market value at the time of sale. Yes at one point he was worth more but due to circumstances beyond the clubs control his market value fell.

Correct sorry counted every game!! Even so,as you correctly point out, whatever the figure may be,even 5m is a lot to be losing for a club, especially below premier level.lots of clubs are going to struggle, and not just this season is my concern, some may well fold!!
