Neil Warnock slams 'disgrace' in Cardiff City game and claims Bluebirds' direct style hasn't changed a bit

The Middlesbrough boss believes little has changed under his successor Neil Harris at Cardiff City, and he wasn't happy with the officials in the 1-1 draw

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock claims Cardiff City's style of football hasn't changed under successor Neil Harris.

Warnock, now in change of Middlesbrough, returned to Cardiff City Stadium for the first time since leaving the Bluebirds last year, and watched on as his side were held to a 1-1 draw.

When he was unveiled as the new City boss back in November, Harris denied that he would be 'Warnock mark II', but Warnock himself isn't convinced the Bluebirds have deviated too much from the direct style of football that had it's fair share of critics despite bringing success.

Speaking after the game, Warnock said: "They [Cardiff] are the best physical side and the towel's round the side with every throw-in. We defended really well. We've done a thousand miles this week and the Middlesbrough fans should be proud of those players. We've responded in those three games.

NEIL WARNOCK:

"I was told they [Cardiff] had changed style since I'd left. It was weird getting off the bus and seeing one or two staff when I was there. But life goes on, it was the right time for me to leave. I'd done everything I could. I'm not sure the style of football has changed if I'm honest from what I was told."

However, despite his observations about the Harris era, Warnock clearly still holds plenty of warmth for his former employers.

"I had three great years here with Cardiff City. I'll come back even when I retire to watch a game. I'll have a walk round and thank them, they were amazing to me."

However, Warnock, perhaps typically, wasn't too keen on the performance of the match officials during his return to South Wales, believing there to be a foul in the build-up to Sheyi Ojo's equaliser.

"I thought we did enough to win it," he added. "Disappointed with the goal. It's an obvious foul to start with.

"They've blocked Saville to give Kieffer Moore a free header. Referees at this level should be able to see things like that. It's a disgrace really after last Saturday's offside that wasn't offside. That's four points we've thrown away this week with decisions."

Still love Warnock; but his 'plaster for every sore' moaning isn't so impressive when it's not in City's favour! :laughing6:

I agree Chris.
He’s already getting on my nerves and he’s not been gone long. Bet he wouldn’t have it any other way though tbf.

You've got to love NW and let's face it how many times did we here those 2 excuses :laughing6: Everytime we had the opportunity to cross he has his players blocking or pulling the shirt off Morrison, in fact on one where 2 of his payers were pulling Mozza's shirt the Ref gave them a free kick.

From what I saw yesterday NW has certainly made a difference to Middlesbrough and you can see that in the way they play, but it's complete bullshit to say our style has'nt developed under NH. We didn't sign Moore, Ojo or Wilson to just keep lumping the ball forward to Patterson like we did under you. As far as long balls go there was little difference in either team. But in terms of passing and action areas we are totally different to you time, 287 short passes and 71% of our attacks played through the middle. For me we are Lee Tomlin short of winning games like yesterday you remember him Neil the player you signed but refused to play, you remember the guy who took your lot to the cleaners a few months ago.

Our team and style under NH is still developing but I can't wait to see a fit Lee Tomlin added to the team.

The only thing that hasn't changed is Warnock's constant moaning and criticism of officials when things go against his side. That's the way he is and most would call it passion but we wouldn't have him any other way.

Piss off Warnock. City Legemd my arse. Guy blows millions , played appalling football and then walked out with full pockets when he was found out. Obviously a Legend to the same people who happily wore red shirts during the rebrand.
I’m glad we don’t have to watch the style of football served up by Middlesbrough yesterday.

Warnock deserves 100% credit fir what he did for us.
Love his passion for the clubs he’s managed and fair play, he’s doing a good job for Boro but he’s also 100% wrong....the style has changed and we can now play a bit more football as well as being direct .
Still to me , Warnock is one of best managers ever in terms of achievements if not style.

He's a legend for the fact that he brought the club together when it was broken because of the rebrand. When since the Hamman days had there been such an all in it together feeling at the club?

For a lot of fans of my age the Warnock period had a lot of echoes to the Eddie May era when we fell in love with the club.

He is a legend and you can see from his rants he is as biased as any fan.

They were pretty poor really we should have won, but most teams feel like that when they play a Warnock side they defend well and block almost everything, grab and push and stop teams playing.

I think eventually it goes against him, as many referees start to give decisions against his teams based on reputation, so Boro won't get away with it forever, but did a number on us and got away with a point.

Did you notice the players on Smithies putting him off on every corner, and getting a goal from one.

Warnock did an amazing job for us on and off the pitch.

However, some of his comments after the game were pretty disingenuous.

He didn't think we'd changed how we played, yet when was the last time his City team had 60% possession

He thought there was a block on the corner for our goal. Well if there was (and I couldn't spot it !) he was/is the master of the dark arts so we probably learnt it from him

Not a mention of Boro time wasting from 20 mins onwards and the little pulls and trips to break up any momentum we built up

I won't knock Warnock for what he did for us, but this has reminded me why I always disliked him as an opposition manager

Fair play to him, I bet he walked away from that interview absolutely pissing himself laughing. He’s on a wind up, he loves it and that’s why the football world loves him. He’ll be loving the comments and reaction. I bet privately he’s spoken to Harris and praised him for his work.
