MY VIEW: TODAY SAW THE RETURN OF NEIL WARNOCK & WITH CARDIFF

Sat Oct 24, 2020 3:53 pm

MY VIEW / OPINION:

TODAY SAW THE RETURN OF NEIL WARNOCK & WITH CARDIFF STILL LOOKING FOR THEIR FIRST HOME WIN OF THE SEASON, THE MATCH ENDED IN A 1-1 DRAW.

Warnock did what he knows best frustrate the home side.

2pts lost in my opinion.

But only 2pts from City's two home games, is not good enough and no win at home will put pressure on Harris to continue winning away from home.

Four changes today - Osei-Tutu, @Joe_Ralls, @joshmurphy65 & @KRFMoore came in! :bluebird:

Cardiff for me slightly edged it, but over all 1-1 fair.

First-Half: City had the better of the first-half and had their chances, against the run of play Boro scored and played the way Warnock knows best, hit the home team on the break.

Second-half: End to end, even stevens.

We had the shots on goal 17-9

CARDIFF CITY 1 MIDDLESBOROUGH 1 :bluebird:
H/T 0-1

Cardiff City: Smithies; Osei-Tutu, Morrison, Nelson, Bagan; Vaulks, Ralls; Ojo, Wilson, Murphy; Moore.

Subs: Phillips, Bamba, Bacuna, Pack, Whyte, Hoilett, Glatzel.

In the Pouring rain, Cardiff were pinned in their own half for the first 10mins.

For me City had, had the better of the first-half, but then GOAL! Cardiff City 0-1 Middlesbrough (Saville 37)
Saville scored from the corner.
The ball was whipped in and Saville nodded it towards the far post and it found its way into the corner.
Boro lead and it has to be said that it was against the run of play over the last 20 minutes or so.

City had the better of the first-half and had their chances, against the run of play Boro scored and played the way Warnock knows best hit the home team on the break.

H-T 0-1

Boro had Smithies under pressure immediately after kick-off McNair whipped in a corner and Smithies had to awkwardly tip over the bar.

A very good start to the second half from Boro.

Boro piled the pressure on with Morrison staying strong for City.

63rd min Glatzel came on for Murphy.

67th min Jordi Osei-Tutu off, Leandro Bacuna on.

GOAL! Cardiff City 1-1 Middlesbrough (Ojo 70) :bluebird: :bluebird:

Cardiff back on terms!

Kieffer Moore won the header from the corner and powered it back into the danger area. Sheyi Ojo was there and he tapped in amid a goalmouth scramble. :bluebird: :bluebird:

Ojo's ball into Glatzel saw the German control it well and lay off Wilson, but his shot was deflected over the bar!

Virtually even stevens, end to end stuff.

Morrison, some great defending.

Hoilett on for Ojo 88th min.

My man of the match Sean Morrison :bluebird: :bluebird:

How didn't we score more than 1? Plenty of good chances. Just missing the finish.

Boro employed all the dirty tricks and ref fell for all of them.

Typical walknock point and a draw isn't completely unfair, but God the ref was awful.

So frustrating should have won but not making enough clear chances! Harris needs to find way of getting players wide we are still playing the game to far away from opponents goal..

That ref was awful in our home game last season v Wigan but today was shocking

Terrible ref but we were not good enough to win the game. Still a tendency to hit the ball at the target man than try to get to the byline. The Vauks throw in repertoire is also pointless, have we ever scored from one? Typical Warnock tactics today but we have to be better if we are to even trouble the play offs this year. Tomlin is the missing ingredient still and could have swung a game like today.

Extremely poor referee who looks like he hasn't played the game to know some of the antics.....2 points lost for sure and waenock tactics got them a point.

A bit limp up front, maybe start with a Moore/Glatzel partnership.

Ralls & Vaulks individually are average but as a central midfield pairing were just non descript.

Thankfully our next 2 games are away from home

Battle of the managers was won by the old master, he did what he always does.

Its not my profession but i never know why we don't leave, Murphy, ojo or Wilson upfield for corners or even two out of the three as they need four to cover (if you had 2) which surely makes defending easier.

Bagan was solid which was so encouraging for his second start.

Good to see Ojo and Murphy continually swapping wings and when Ojo was on the left he knocked in a terrific cross.

Its going to hard work for the 2 midfielders. Ralls and Bacuna would be my starters but there are a lot of games in a short period.

Bacuna always looks to break from midfield unfortunately Ralls and Vaulks do not, so slow when they sit so deep

I think in the 4231 they are told sit as they both want to get into the box. I believe Bacuna,Ralls and Vaulks are all better in a three man midfield (433)
We do play a deep back 4. It is very defensive, so the 2 sitters rarely get beyond the centre circle. How often do the fullbacks make any overlaps ? With inverted wide forwards the full backs need to overlap but we don't. Its all very safe.

Hard to disagree with any of that, Annis

For me, City played in three distinct phases; a decent start, a poor middle and an almost game-salvaging end

Overall, a fair result for Neil Warnock's 'Boro and I feel the there is a lot more to come from this slowly gelling Blurbirds team; with Joel Bagan settling in superbly for one in only his second Championship appearance (my reason for giving him MotM)

Lots of (we've heard most before) platitudes from former City manager, Neil Warnock; but he will be pleased with a draw and his 'Boro side will upset a few more decent teams this season

We got Warnock’d. He knows exactly how to slow game down and do what his team needs. Few good performances today kind.

Morrison MOM?

He’s a City legend but c’mon he’s a dinosaur in footballing terms- he’d have been typical in a 1980’s team.

Harris needs to tell him to stop dribbling out likes he’s Bobby Moore.

Plus his goal return since we got promoted hasn’t been as expected.

Annis, it was Bagan's maturity in only his second game that swung it for me, although I agree it could have been either of Morrison or (for me) Moore :thumbright:
