Neil Harris has praised the qualities of man-of-the-moment Harry Wilson after the Welshman's coolly taken goal earned Cardiff City a point against Bournemouth.

Wilson signed on loan from Liverpool on transfer deadline day in a coup Bluebirds fans could scarcely believe.

After an outing from the substitutes bench last weekend against Preston, he was named in Harris' starting lineup for the first time on Wednesday night and came up trumps with an excellent all-round performance and, importantly, the equaliser.

Wilson was a menace all evening for the Cherries, his former club, with his jinking runs, lovely passing vision and eye for goal.

It saw City fans gush over his performance and the promise of what is to come from him in that Cardiff City shirt over the next few months. And Harris rightly lavished the Welshman with praise after his display at Cardiff City Stadium.

"He is disappointed he hasn't got the match ball," Harris said of Wilson after the match.

"He showed his class and his quality again.

"We can talk about Harry Wilson's quality, his class, his shots, his link-up play, his free-kicks, but it's what he does without the ball as well, the distance he covers on the pitch.

"I thought he was excellent."

Another talking point, of course, was Joel Bagan's performance.

The young left back was afforded his first Championship appearance for Cardiff City after injuries to Joe Bennett and Greg Cunningham in recent weeks and barely put a foot out of place against a vaunted Bournemouth front line.

The 19-year-old made a crucial intervention at the beginning of the second half, stymieing a chance from Jack Stacey, and then grew in confidence moving forward as the tie wore on.

And Harris, who is always so measured and considered in what he does and doesn't say about his players, believes Bagan will be a top left back for this club for years to come.

"Joel is really level-headed. He's a quiet, unassuming lad," Harris said of Bagan.

"He is a joy to coach, he is a sponge.

"He just appreciates being around the first-team group every day. It's made him a better player.

"To be thrown into a tough Championship picture is hard enough, to do it against Bournemouth, a good footballing team, is even tougher.

"I thought he acquitted himself really well and went from strength to strength, I've got to be honest.

"The last half hour he really came into his own. With the ball he was good, without the ball he was good, positionally he was very good.

"He is going to be a very good left back for this club for a very long time."
